With the possibility of no global agreement, who's to blame?

It now appears that this year's Copenhagen climate conference will not produce a binding global pact to reduce emissions, but rather a political agreement on certain key elements, with hopes for a deal in 2010. Who's to blame for this, and what sort of key questions are likely to get resolved in Copenhagen? To what extent does it represent a setback for the global push to combat climate change?

Your heading should read " who's to congratulate" rather than "who's to blame"

Just imagine...the climate is changing and human contribution to the change is only about 20-30%, the remainder are natural forces that we don't control. To the same degree that we don't control volcanic activity, etc. The entire focus of the negotiations is on controling human contributions...a fatal mistake. There are major crisis due to hunger, overpopulation, crowding in the megacities, health care problems globally for people going hungry, hot and crowded. And so on. We need to relocate nations and people who are likely to see sea level rise, regardless of who or what causes the climate to change. There is growing evidence that the science of human caused climate changed has been cooked, but it does not mean that the threat of climate change has disappeared. Maybe it is time to take some time out to focus on the optimal solutions.

If the global warming true believers haven't quite figured it out by now, all these "conferences", and "political statements", etc. ... are just to string them out.

China and India said years ago they were not going to play ball, so it's over.

No country is going to destroy its economy to Save the World fifty years hence.

But global warming DOES sop up a lot of excess energy, otherwise these folks could really do some damage.

glad to see we are doing nothing!
there is nothing to do!
there is no man made climate change, or man made global warming.
the little ice age started about 1250 ad and ended about 1900 - so naturally it got a little warmer you fools.
the earth - with or without people - will change climate and even land will appear and then disappear.
such is the way of life of the earth.
and those stupid light bulbs you want us to use contain mercury. multiple that by hundreds of billions and you are looking at more deaths from mercury.
remember mercury in tuna?
the sky is not falling.

It's now official. Much of the hype about global warming is nothing but a complete scam.

Thanks to hackers (or an insider) who broke into The University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit (CRU) and downloaded 156 megaybytes of data including extremely damaging emails, we now know that data supporting the global warming thesis was completely fabricated.

Inquiring minds are reading Hacked: Hadley CRU FOI2009 Files on The Reference Frame by LuboŇ° Motl, a physicist from the Czech Republic.

The University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit (CRU), usually working together with the Hadley center (recall HadCRUT3 global temperatures), has been hacked.

So far, the most interesting file I found in the "documents" directory is pdj_grant_since1990.xls (Google preview, click) which shows that since 1990, Phil Jones has collected staggering 13.7 million British pounds ($22.6 million) in grants.

Phil Jones, the main criminal according to this correspondence, has personally confirmed that the website was hacked and that the documents are authentic. See Briefing Room.

He says that he "can't remember" what he meant by "hiding the decline." Well, let me teach him some English. First, dictionaries say that hide means

1. to conceal from sight; prevent from being seen or discovered: Where did she hide her jewels?
2. to obstruct the view of; cover up: The sun was hidden by the clouds.
3. to conceal from knowledge or exposure; keep secret: to hide one's feelings.
4. to conceal oneself; lie concealed: He hid in the closet.
5. British. a place of concealment for hunting or observing wildlife; hunting blind.
6. hide out, to go into or remain in hiding: After breaking out of jail, he hid out in a deserted farmhouse.

Here Are A Few Choice Emails

Dear Ray, Mike and Malcolm,
Once Tim's got a diagram here we'll send that either later today or first thing tomorrow. I've just completed Mike's Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from 1961 for Keith's to hide the decline. Mike's series got the annual land and marine values while the other two got April-Sept for NH land N of 20N. The latter two are real for 1999, while the estimate for 1999 for NH combined is +0.44C wrt 61-90. The Global estimate for 1999 with data through Oct is +0.35C cf. 0.57 for 1998. Thanks for the comments, Ray.

The left and their liberal camp followers bought the global warming nonsense and tried to push it on the rest of us. They failed. People have wised up and Al Gore is history. Try some real scientific pursuits next time....

Plain and Simple- AGW is a HOAX.
Many brilliant scientists and climatologists agree after looking at the data. Al Gore's book is filled with exagerations and fallacies. Now were hearing today that intercepted emails from IPCC members indicate and AGENDA driven bias... This is NOT new. Many scientist went away from the IPCC saying the same thing....

Who's to blame? Why George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. Had they not wrecked the world economy, there would have been money to do this. It is all about money.

GregJolysGhost Author Profile Page :

Don't blame me. I changed a light bulb last week, and Al Gore patted me on the head and said "Good Boy". Then he left on his jet to go back to his mansion to make out with Tipper.

Whose is to blame?

How about earth scientists who have been paid by the Global Warmist lobby to manufacture data?

It takes tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands, of years of data to determine long term climate trends on the earth. Yet in their rush to prove that Global Warming exists, so that they can sell $billions or even $trillions of dollars of remedies for this calamity, the Global Warming community is trying to take data for the last 100 years and, using "scientific methods", try to force it to prove that the earth is warming.

This is fraud of the highest order.

This is stunning news on the Global Warming debate.

Why are your "panelists" all white men, most of whom look to be older than 50? Climate change impacts other people too. And other people have important views that should be heard.

After legislating the climate, Congress should legislate gravity and change the values of pi and e.

They have just as much chance at controlling the climate.
