Be conservative, but acknowledge the future
Whether we are Democrat, Republican or Independent, I believe we all need to be conservative -- trying to conserve the world that we inherited from our ancestors. What will we pass on to our descendants? No, we can't be 100 percent positive humans are changing the climate, but wouldn't it be wise to err on the side of caution? Yes, jobs are very important, but surely we can figure out how to create positions to replace those lost to moving on to more responsible energy generation.
For those who are trying to block legislation to curb meaningful steps to limit human influence on nature, I would ask them if they are willing to write a letter to a child explaining their position which would be kept to read at a later date.
Let's not think party affiliation, but as Americans who want to do the right thing, not only for us living today but for those who will follow. Jason Grumet, president of the Bipartisan Policy Center, observed that, "Ultimately, members of Congress must be able to explain the impact their vote will have on monthly electric bills and a gallon of gas." Too bad we can't be thinking more of those who will inherit the results of our actions.
