Copenhagen's rival quote of the day

COPENHAGEN--With the U.N.-sponsored talks at a standstill, here, a reporter asked the top U.N. climate official, Yvo de Boer, how he would describe the status of the negotiations if one compared it to climbing a mountain where the summit represents a final deal.

"I think we're about halfway," de Boer said. "I think we're cueing up the cable car, and the rest of the ride is going to be fast, smooth and relaxing."

The entire crowd erupted in laughter, as de Boer smiled.
