History suggests Arctic sea ice is in trouble

By Juliet Eilperin

New research led by the U.S. Geological Survey provides more evidence that the Arctic will be ice-free in the summertime within a matter of decades.

Vice President Al Gore provoked a flap a couple of weeks ago in Copenhagen, when he suggested there was a 75 percent chance summer sea ice in the Arctic would disappear within five to seven years, and the scientist whose research he cited said there's no way to predict that outcome with such precision.

But the overall direction is the subject of a new study that compares the earth's current warming trends to the mid-Pliocene warm period, 3.3 to 3 million years ago. Temperatures then were similar to what the planet is projected to experience by the end of the century.

Global average surface temperatures during the mid-Pliocene period, when there was no ice on the Arctic sea during the summer, were about 3 degrees Celsius, or 5.5 Fahrenheit, warmer than we are now. The world is on track to warm by more than that by 2100.

During that period, according to the study, summer sea-surface temperatures in the Arctic were between 10 to 18 degrees Celsius, or 50 to 64 degrees Fahrenheit. Right now summer sea-surface temperatures hover around or below 0 degrees Celsius, or 32 degrees Fahrenheit. To learn more about the group who studies this period in geologic history, known as the Pliocene Research, Interpretation and Synoptic Mapping (PRISM) group, click here.

"In looking back three million years, we see a very different pattern of heat distribution than today with much warmer waters in the high latitudes," said USGS scientist Marci Robinson. "The lack of summer sea ice during the mid-Pliocene suggests that the record-setting melting of Arctic sea ice over the past few years could be an early warning of more significant changes to come."

The Northwest Passage of Viking lore circa 1100-1200 AD will once again is returning as the Earth's climate returns to its natural condition. We have adapted to those changes before and will do so again thru human ingenuity, not government edict.

A band of 28 Republican senators is calling on the United Nations to appoint an independent investigator to probe leaked e-mails they claim raise serious questions about the science behind global warming.
Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, announced last week that the U.N. would conduct an investigation, saying at the time that the controversy over the e-mails was serious and that he didn’t want to “brush anything under the carpet.”
But the GOP senators wrote in their letter to Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon that while such an inquiry is a “positive step,” they want an investigation “that is truly independent of the IPCC and the U.N.” — in the style of the independent investigation led by former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker in the wake of the Oil for Food scandal.
“The United Nations must now appoint another independent investigator with an international team to pursue this matter,” the senators wrote. They also urged the U.N. to open the books on the matter to the U.S. Congress and general public.

Google “Climategate” America, and you will see what a Fraud Global Warming is!!

These are some of the E-mails of Scientist who are advising the United Nations, The EPA, and Your U.S. Congress! Discover for yourself America.

Jones e-mail of 16 Nov 1999
An excerpt from one November 1999 e-mail authored by Phil Jones reads:

"I've just completed Mike's Nature “TRICK” of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie, from 1981 onwards) and from 1961 for Keith's to HIDE THE DECLINE."[7][28][29]

Mann e-mail of 11 Mar 2003
In one e-mail, as a response to an e-mail indicating that a paper in the scientific journal Climate Research had questioned assertions that the 20th century was abnormally warm, Mann wrote:

“I think we have to stop considering Climate Research as a legitimate peer-reviewed journal. Perhaps we should encourage our colleagues in the climate research community to no longer submit to, or cite papers in, this journal."[37]

Jones e-mail of 8 Jul 2004
An 8 July 2004 e-mail from Phil Jones to Michael Mann said in part:

"The other paper by MM is just garbage. [...] I can't see either of these papers being in the next IPCC report. Kevin and I will keep them out somehow — even if we have to redefine what the peer-review literature is!"

Jones e-mail of 2 Feb 2005
A 2 February 2005 email from Phil Jones to Michael Mann includes:

"And don't leave stuff lying around on ftp sites - you never know who is trawling them. The two MMs have been after the CRU station data for years. If they ever hear there is a Freedom of Information Act now in the UK, I think I'll delete the file rather than send to anyone. Does your similar act in the US force you to respond to enquiries within 20 days?—ours does! The UK works on precedents, so the first request will test it. We also have a data protection act, which I will hide behind.”

Trenberth e-mail of 12 Oct 2009
An email written by Kevin Trenberth, a climatologist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, discussed gaps in understanding of recent temperature variations:

"The fact is that we can't account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can't,"[

Here are a Few of the MANY Scientists Who Believe Global Warming is Primarily Caused by Natural Processes and NOT caused by Co2.

- William M. Gray, Professor of Atmospheric Science, Colorado State University [1] [2]

- Sallie Baliunas, astronomer, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics [1]

- Don Easterbrook, emeritus professor of geology, Western Washington University [1]

- Khabibullo Abdusamatov, mathematician and astronomer at Pulkovskaya Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences [1]

- Fred Singer, Professor emeritus of Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia [1] [2]

- Frederick Seitz, retired, former solid-state physicist, former president of the National Academy of Sciences [1]

- Willie Soon, astrophysicist, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics [1]

- George V. Chilingar, Professor of Civil and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Southern California [1]

- Ian Clark, hydrogeologist, professor, Department of Earth Sciences, University of Ottawa [1]

- Richard Lindzen, Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Atmospheric Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology [1]

I will listen to these guys instead of Al Gore who thinks the “Earth’s core temperature is several millions of degrees”.

It is sad that Obama went to Copenhagen to sign away our sovereignty to the United Nations based on this Junk Science. The Global Warming hoax is the biggest Scam in the Last 100 years! Thank God Cap and Trade will fail miserably in the Senate this year. Wake up America! Green is the new Color of Socialism. Green Politicians like Al Gore and John Kerry don’t care about the environment. It has been proven that Al Gore will make Billions if Cap and Trade passes (which it won’t). Doesn’t that sound like a conflict of interest? This is about wealth re-distribution. They want to take American money and give it to Communist countries to help Fight the theory which is global warming. Trust the U.N. anybody? Remember oil for food? Wikipedia it if you don’t know what happened.

Anybody that does just a little research of their own on this subject will discover what a fraud it is. Discover for yourself America.

Very nice gratuitous slap at Al Gore, especially when the headlined topic is only marginally related to Gore's supposed inaccuracy. I say supposed since the link used to substantiate it is HYSCIENCE, a right wing noise machine blog.

The link will take you to a story about how the latest climate research reveals that the airborne fraction of emitted CO2 has been constant for the last 150 years. They take that to mean that the atmospheric concentration of CO2 has been established to be constant over the past 150 years - that there is actually no increase in atmospheric CO2 at all. That difference might have to be explained so here goes: by airborne fraction, it means the fraction of emitted CO2 that stays in the air, ie, it's not dissolved in the ocean. James Hanson covers this in his latest book, it's no surprise, he says 44% of emitted CO2 is dissolved in the ocean, leaving 56% as the airborne fraction. He goes further to say the fraction has remained constant over the years, although the expectation is that as the oceans warm, the equilibrium will ultimately shift to a higher airborne fraction.

Next time you take a slap at Gore, try not to use one of teh stoopit websites.
