Conservative blacks and Latino groups bash EPA

By Juliet Eilperin

Harry C. Alford, the president and chief executive of the National Black Chamber of Commerce, has fighting words for the Environmental Protection Agency.

"President Obama wants to price us out of energy," Alford declared during a Capitol Hill news conference Tuesday. "This is a war on how we live in America."

Alford spoke at an event sponsored by the Affordable Power Alliance, which just published a report analyzing the impacts of the EPA regulating greenhouse gases.

The study, conducted by Management Information Systems, suggests regulation of carbon dioxide under the Clean Air Act would increase the poverty rate for African Americans 20 percent by 2025, from 24 percent to roughly 30 percent, and increase the poverty rate for Hispanics nearly 22 percent during that same period, from 23 to 28 percent.

Bishop Harry Jackson Jr., president of the High Impact Leadership Coalition, said that too often policymakers adopt policies aimed at "forcing conservation through escalating prices."

Dear TheGreenMiles:

Your comment is typical of those who want so passionately to save the world by suppressing CO2. You don't address the facts. You assault the integrity of anyone questioning your point of view by asserting that someone is paying them to oppose your obviously correct position.

Any fool can figure out that cap and trade or carbon taxation would substantially increase the cost of basic necessities in this country. Denying this and blaming oil company funding is typical of your community, but addressing the unpleasant truths is not something you want to do.

The same legislation would also drive lots of jobs off shore to countries where environmental nut cases have not been given control of the government. They will laugh all the way to the bank while you and your kind happily drive the African American community, along with the rest of us who don't work for the government, into poverty and national decline.

Ignoring the impact of the policies you advocate and slandering anyone who questions them is actually beneficial to the people who love this country. It exposes the arguments you make for what they are; frauds perpetrated on the American public by environmental nut cases whose beliefs are dictated by people like Al Gore. Please do continue to read his every press release and do as he says. More publicity is good because more people will understand that the whole thing has degenerated into a scam to make money by raising taxes and electricity costs so the money can to to the true believers.

The same National Black Chamber of Commerce that has received $275,000 from ExxonMobil since 1998? Quite shocking that they'd then oppose clean energy & climate action ...
