Creative Alternatives

The issue of dealing with crisis is the toughest of all leadership decisions. All the good will and talent that may be built up over years can be lost overnight. It is a time for consultation not unilateral implementation.

Considering alternatives like job sharing, transfers, counseling, retraining money, or supplemental payments for unemployment -- rather than just cold, bottom-line anonymous actions -- can make a big difference rather than leave a big scar.

This is an unpleasant responsibility at any time but with the whole economy reeling, strategy and consideration do matter.
