Treat Us Like Adults
I believe that the best response is one that addresses both "the head and the heart" of the situation. The former requires readily understandable, accurate, and up-to-date information, conveyed through a wide variety of mediums. The latter requires acknowledging the fear and anxiety, as well as other emotions, people will naturally feel.
It is critical that public officials treat us as adults. We, in turn, must be responsible for our own choices and actions that are made for the good of the whole. Organizational cultures that value authentic conversations and treat employees as responsible adults fare better
under a wide range of challenges.
