Cool Heads, Creative Minds
First I would say partnership and dialogue should always trump ultimatums, which it appears from afar is what the New York Times is now offering. We know these are tough times for America and for workers and companies. But this is where consultation, participation, and team work pays off.
In this situation I suggest that full transparency of financial information; a reasonable explanation and exploration of alternatives; and appropriate time for discussion and compromise is imperative.
The industry did not get into this problem overnight and should not expect overnight the workers to solve the problems. This is a time for cool heads and creative minds.
