Meet today's corporate heroes

Q: Tony Hayward, once credited for BP's "green" turnaround, is forced to resign in disgrace. Michael Dell, the revolutionary high-tech entrepreneur, is sanctioned for misleading investors. Wall Street titans, once lionized, are now reviled. Where have all the CEO heroes gone?

There are plenty of corporate heroes out there, but the media tends to focus on failures and problems rather than the CEOs who are making such positive differences in our society.

For example, look at Sam Palmisano and the remarkable job he has done in transforming IBM into a global integrated network based on "Leading by Values"; PepsiCo's Indra Nooyi, who is converting the company on healthy foods and beverages and focusing its foundation on fighting obseity; Avon's Andrea Jung, who has expanded her organization network to six million people and focused on breast cancer and domestic violence; Cisco's John Chambers who brought the company back after stock lost 80 percent of value in 2002 and now is the global leader in communications networking; and Ford's Alan Mulally who has rebuilt the company into a great company once again with a highly competitive lineup of automobiles.

There are many more heroes like Xerox's Anne Mulcahy and Ursula Burns, General Motors' Ed Whitaker, General Mills' Ken Powell and Google's Eric Schmidt. These and many more like them are the emerging authentic leaders, who acknowledge their weaknesses and mistakes, but are always committed to build their institutions rather than pursue their self-interest.

It's time to focus more on their successes than the individual failures.

Pretty good example of the fact that Business Schools are about grovelling to big corporate bosses and don't want anybody talking about criminal banksters and oil company execs. who ruin pubic resources to maximize short term profits. Business schools are about propaganda not truth, and they bear great responsibility for the fact that corporate bosses are striving striving more than ever for maximum short term profits and maximum income for themselves no matter what.
