The fast pace of web develoment
I had the most peaceful of workdays yesterday, with just one other co-worker, coincidentally also named Alexis, and I in the co-working space. Since it was just the two of us, we were able to keep a good flow of electronic and hip hop music going the entire day, save for a break to listen to coverage of the big iPad announcement. In my post yesterday, I quoted John Backus and his observation that the key to success is the ability to act fast. Alexis completely epitomizes this capability. A little over one week ago he came up with the brilliant idea for a web application that "launches" secrets with finite lives, that expire after a set time period. Fast forward a few days, and spillbound.com is live.
I don't think the pace of web development will ever cease to amaze me. Even though I am not a developer myself, I think working alongside people like Alexis, or Phil and Mike, Bandsintown's CTO and lead developer, positively impacts the expectations I set for myself. Their effectiveness is contagious.
