A motivating environment
Last night was the second "think tank" night at our co-working space, the Hive Haus. Jason, who runs the Hive, created these nights as an opportunity for members to discuss their businesses, learn from one another and find opportunities to collaborate. One of the things I most appreciate about working here is that Jason is incredibly thoughtful about the companies and individuals he offers space to in the Hive. While it would be easy for him to give a desk to anyone, he tries to make sure that there is a good fit culturally and skills wise. People compliment one another, but are not competitive. As a result, the space is filled with creative people who are generous in sharing their time and talents with one another.
Having spent so much time over the past year working alone out of my apartment or random coffee shops, I appreciate the community at the Hive all the more. There is no requirement for me to work out of here--or anywhere--every day, but I choose to because working among my colleagues at the Hive adds so much to my day and makes me more effective in everything I do.
