Creativity for a cause
Perhaps the only thing better than creativity is creativity for a cause, which is one of the reasons I'm so excited about Gulf Coast Benefit: Coast to Coast Concerts, a national day of benefit concerts taking place tonight to raise money in support of Gulf Coast cleanup efforts.
Taylor Davidson, a friend and recent transplant to New Orleans, is among the main organizers of the event. From writing and traveling to finance and photography, when Taylor takes something on, he puts his whole heart into it. His gusto and commitment left me with little choice but to ask myself: "What can I do as well?"
While I did not feel like I could take on planning a benefit show myself, I realized that Bandsintown is the perfect platform upon which to promote a national day of concerts. Indeed, that is what we do ever day. Luckily, the rest of the team agreed and we were able to put promotions up on our Web site, write a blog post and send tweets to our nearly 20,000 followers on Twitter.
As someone who recently started surfing, the Gulf Coast disaster made a bigger impression on me than it otherwise might have. Those pictures of discolored waves and marine life drenched in oil seem somehow more personal to me now. It may not be a huge contribution, but I'm glad that I, and the rest of our team at Bandsintown, could do something to support these concerts for such an important cause.
Hope to you at one of them tonight!
