Should Alex Ovechkin be selected for a third straight NHL MVP award?

With three weeks remaining in the regular season, Alex Ovechkin is making a strong push to join Bobby Orr and Wayne Gretzky as the only players to claim the Hart Trophy as the NHL's MVP three consecutive seasons. Read the full article.

Look at the stats. He's beating Crosby, the other major contender for MVP, in assists, points and plus/minus, and they're tied in goals, and OV has played so many fewer games. There's no contest - he needs to get it.

22% say no? Wilbon must have hacked into the system. Ovi is first in +/-. Crosby is 86th.

A NO for Ovie isn't necessarily a YES for Crosby. You'd have to be fairly deluded to think that Crosby's contributions are greater than Ovechkin's, since AO leads in virtually every offensive category, as well as in +/- and hits.

It's entirely possible that the NOs might be looking at a goalie like Ryan Miller or Bryzgalov. Buffalo certainly wouldn't be the dominant team in the NE division without Miller and he's a virtual lock for the Vezina this year. If anyone other than Ovie gets it, it should be Ryan. Crosby deserves no better than 3rd place in the voting.

If memory serves, Caps beat Ryan Miller & the Sabres. Btw Miller thanks for the great work for USA!

Ovi should get the Hart. Just like in boxing the champion always gets the benefit of the doubt over the challenger. Challenger has to knock the champ on his seat and I don't see Ovi un-seat-ed in this case.

Members of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association vote on the Hart. Think back to the press Ovi has received this year. Do you think he'll receive the majority of the approximately 400 votes?

I'm assuming Marrioti and Wilbon aren't members of the PHWA. Still, given the weight of a third consecutive Hart and the fact he's been suspended twice this season (and the team has earned 15 points in the ten games he's missed), I'd be surprised if he wins the Hart.

He'll likely win the Pearson, though.
