With the departure of longtime judge Simon Cowell, Fox's American Idol TV franchise has been looking for a new celebrity judge. And while executives are only committing to having a replacement in place by September, rumors are running rampant that a replacement could be named imminently.

Harry Connick would be too gentle. They need someone who has singing chops and who knows the business but who isnt so nice as to be a pushover. But also not just an acid tongue looking for the cheap put-down, which was Simon's stock and trade.
