Too many vacations for President Obama?

The Obamas arrived at Martha's Vineyard Thursday to start their last vacation of the summer. The White House refused to say whether the family would stay at the same very private compound as last year. Read the full article.

It's August. The President is a human being and we all need a break. As President he takes the responsibilities with him. I would hope people would understand that. The Congress is now off for 6 weeks in a row and you know they are not working in their offices - they have people for that. Do the numbers.

Posted by: susanwhiteaker | August 19, 2010 9:52 AM

When you look at the kinds of trips he's taking--swimming in the Gulf, fitting in meetings with local families or businesses, giving speeches--they're more like working vacations anyway. It didn't bother me when Bush went on his brush-clearing expeditions, it doesn't bother me that the Obamas visit beaches.

Posted by: dkp01 | August 19, 2010 10:00 AM

This is a President who works 5-6 days a week and works more than 8 hours a day. He deserves to spend some quality time away from the office with his family, especially since he has two young daughters. Give the guy a break. He's entitled to take some time to relax. If you were in his position having to handle so many affairs of state you'd want to have break every now and then to spend with your family.

George Bush spent long vacations relaxing on his ranch in Texas. This President takes a week here or a few days.

The less time Obama spends in Washington the better. He can on a permanent vacation in 2012.

Posted by: icmop911 | August 19, 2010 11:11 AM

He needs more time with his family so that he can keep reminding himself what is important and use that knowledge to lead the country. Spending hours and hours with his advisors and secretaries of departments must be tiring. Look at his hair. How much older he has become in less than two years.

Posted by: oldandfoolish | August 20, 2010 7:52 AM

Obama has gone on half as many vacations as Bush did at this time in his presidency.

Obama deserves a long vacation right now.

Posted by: maritza1 | August 22, 2010 12:11 AM

This poll should have included how many trips to Crawford the previous occupant went on by this time.

Posted by: gjcomm | August 22, 2010 3:01 AM

So,prehaps the question here of this poll needs to be reworded so that it asks does
Barack Hussein Obama actually spend enough time at his Oval Office Desk working on solving our pressing national problems?...
The answer will surely be "Hell No!"...

Posted by: Ralphinphnx | August 22, 2010 9:04 AM

Personally I wish Obama and the rest of Congress would take the rest of the year off for vacation. At least while they're on vacation they can't do any more damage to the country.

Posted by: RobT1 | August 22, 2010 12:57 PM

Yes,indeed Der Glorius Leader Comrade in Chief Absentee President Barack Obama has
been taking far too many vacations in the less then two full years in office along with the fact evertime a crisis or anything
else happens Obama quick bugs out on yet another lengthy costly vacation or sends
jet set Queen Wannabe Michelle Obama off one to Spain or other ritzy spots as well.

Posted by: Jan1977 | August 22, 2010 2:04 PM

It would not be so bad if he were paying for his own vacations like the rest of us do. However, just taking Airforce 1 costs alot of money, not to mention carbon dioxide, and he does not pay for this. Nor does he pay for the security that goes with him. A permanent vacation would be a good thing. Many vacations at the taxpayer expense is a bad thing.

Posted by: annnort | August 22, 2010 2:21 PM

I don't care how many vacation they take. Just don't tell us that we have to sacrifice and go running off and boosting Spain's economy when they could have spent that money right here in America.

You know. The place that they are supposed to represent? Oh yeah. I forgot. In it for the perks and really don't give a hoot about the American people at all.

But it's OK. The Obamedia will fix it.

Posted by: ieklein | August 22, 2010 8:04 PM

Looking at Obama, you wouldn't guess it; but the man is all mouth and no ears!

America is suffering and the President chooses not to connect. Rather than take responsibility and support sensible solutions that energizes the free market economy, he chooses blame and escape.

Sure he can vacation any many think it is better he is! However, if he were listening he would be hard at work.

Posted by: 2012frank | August 22, 2010 9:55 PM

This is a joke question right? We've had two President who took more vacations then time in office. President Reagan spent more time in Santa Barbara then DC. President George W. Bush broke that record and now heads the list of all Presidents with the most vacation time. Nothing Obama does is right to those who are mad he's in office. But while the haters are attacking notice Obama is doing his job that he was elected to do.

We had two Wars and a Recession and not one American or reporter said a word to the many vacations Bush took. What was sad is how Bush vacationed and never gave our troops a thought as thousands were dying. Maybe if Bush had actually done his job we might not be in this problem.

Posted by: qqbDEyZW | August 22, 2010 11:49 PM

HOMESCHOOLED? Are Obama's kids homeschooled? If they aren't then how do they get a ten day vacation at the start of the school year?

Posted by: fkgaza | August 22, 2010 11:55 PM

The Democrats are the party of welfare dwellers, illegal aliens, taxes (never met a tax they didn't like), protectors of the rights of criminals instead of their victims, homeboys, the lazy, druggies, Wall Street, Union thugs, ambulance chasing lawyers, etc.

Posted by: get_involved | August 22, 2010 11:57 PM

What a ludicrous poll. Obama has not taken nearly as many vacation days as the last 3 presidents thus far. Trust me I am not a fan exactly anymore but give the guy a break on this one.

Reading the comments here are enough to make me sick of the people in this country. All I can say is thank goodness we have the freedom to say what we want in this country, even if it is uneducated ignorant rambling by people who hate Obama just because he is black.

Posted by: mrqcguy | August 23, 2010 12:01 AM

To all the inane wingnuts yelping about his time off: At this point in his presidency, Obama has taken 48 days off--at this point George W. Bush, while sitting out a 9/11 warning, then botching a war in Afghanistan, had taken 115 days. This is just one more ginned up piece of nonesense by the bloviaters and haters. Rail away fools--he'll be here until 2016, because there is not a single Republican with the policy smarts or the class to beat him. Watching you people scream and moan is sheer delight. WAHHHHHHHHHH WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Posted by: bklyndan22 | August 23, 2010 12:09 AM

I hope our president had a great vacation! He deserves it, he's worked so hard to undo the massive, horrendous damage done to America from eight years of George Bush.

Posted by: losthorizon10 | August 23, 2010 12:10 AM

Are you serious with this question?

According to CBSNews who follows presidents Obama has taken less than half of the vacation that George Bush has taken at this time in his presidency.

Posted by: maritza1 | August 23, 2010 12:17 AM

This nonsense about vacations again?

To the commenter who wondered how Sasha and Malia have time off at the start of the school year; in the Middle Atlantic region and many northern parts of the country, school starts after Labor Day.

Posted by: samantha3 | August 23, 2010 12:24 AM

It is not just the "Vacations". It is all the Apology Tours, the Campaigning, and the vacations combined;

while the only "Vacations" most Middle Class are getting is UNEMPLOYMENT!

The Phrase "Detached from Reality Elitist Snit" comes to mind!

Those who love to trash Democrats and the blue states are so dishonest and ignorant of the facts, but, hey, isn't Rupert Murdoch the most radical and subversive operative in the USA today, destabilizing a formerly polite country focused on its process of being democratic, Constitution based and tolerant?

Newscorp, Fox's parent, has received $3 billion in Saudi funding and they are Newscorp's second largest shareholder. So a naturalized Aussie with his bought and paid for US citizenship has Saudi and Chinese liasons and the GOP is still considered patriotic? Wanna buy a bridge in Brooklyn? Murdoch's Chinese wife doesn't even like Americans, it is said.

If Republicans only cared for their country as much as they enjoy assimilating whatever propaganda they are fed. It's a terminal illness, and I'm not even a Democrat, but rather an unaffiliated citizen and voter who scans the data from all sides and then goes and pukes after seeing the GOP/T-party repulsive chatter and garbage. I will and have voted for Republicans upon occasion, but they never will vote for a Democrat. So Foxx fights the Islamic community center at ground zero but has $3 B in Saudi funding? What hypocrites!

The GOp and right wing have repudiated all of Western civilization since Copernicus, and think it is the Democrats that are ignorant. Just as the commenter at 11;57Pm said that Democrats are the welfare dweller and illegal aliens (BTW they can't vote), it is perhaps useful to point out that it is the blue states that subsidize the red states with federal tax monies, not the reverse. So the GOP states are the recipient socialists?

California paid $50 biilion more to the federal government in taxes 2005 than they received back, and the red states always, chronically, receive more than they pay in - Alaska, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, South Caroline, Georgia, Mississippi, etc.
The red states are the real socialists and the blue states have subsidized them year after year for decades. (See taxfoundation.org and their 2005 study as a non-partisan foundation that has written on tax issues since 1937.)

Again, the GOP/T-party are socialists and propagandists in the mode of Bolsheviks, with no lie, no manipulation of facts,no intimidation, and no insinuation or deception too low for where the end justifies the means. And the Republican/T-party is purposely ignorant, mean, radical, subversive, nasty, untruthful and unAmerican. No graet country can survive with such losers.

Obama took more vacation days than the CEOs and mangers I've known, not to mention the front-line workers working their butts out. I just learned that he took more vacation days than Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton too. Considering the crisis Americans are facing now and are counting on him to lead us out, I'd say he seems to be a bit too relax and laid back and are not so much "with us".

Posted by: spspww | August 23, 2010 1:03 AM

What ever happened to the free press that was supposed to keep the voters informed?

Why not just come out and say that at this time in his first term, George W. Bush had had more than twice the number of days away from the White House as President Obama..

Why carry water the the nasty right wingnuts that keep their people agitated 24/7 with whatever rumor mongering they can do by the hour?

Posted by: wmpowellfan | August 23, 2010 4:40 AM

Funny stuff in comparison

George W. Bush is today making his final visit to Camp David as president.

He will likely miss the place: According to CBS News White House Correspondent Mark Knoller, today's trip marks Mr. Bush's 149th visit to the presidential retreat. The planned three-day stay, during which the president is being joined by family and former and current aides, will bring his total time spent at Camp David to all or part of 487 days.

Yes, that's 487 days. And Camp David is not even where the president has spent the most time when not at the White House: Knoller reports that

Mr. Bush has made 77 visits to his ranch in Crawford during his presidency, and spent all or part of 490 days there.

What little time President Obama spent
on vacation

Posted by: hlinneweh | August 23, 2010 5:08 AM

Just as when nothing was said about unfunded mandates and economically irresponsible legislation being rammed down our throats by the GOP, conservatives didn't say boo about GWB's excessive vacation time. Further evidence that the right-wing rage isn't based on actions but rather the man performing the actions.

Posted by: washpost18 | August 23, 2010 5:24 AM

Once again you LSM's seem to be intent on reporting on your pre-existing narratives. Compare Obama's vacation time with Bush II at this point in that administration. Bush spent almost 2/3rds more time vacationing. And what modern day president really vacations anyway?

WAPO report some real news, at least try.

Posted by: gurudev16 | August 23, 2010 5:37 AM

It did not matter whether Bush took so many vacations that he spent more than a year off. His only real job was to be the front guy occasionally for the real President, Dick Cheney.

Posted by: frodot | August 23, 2010 6:34 AM

I did not vote for him and will not vote for him the next time around. I also voted no on this poll. The president deserves down time.

However, regarding the Bush comparisons there are a few glaring omissions in the rants. Both Bush and Reagan went to their own retreats to spend time away from office. The taxpayers footed the bill for Air Force One and Secret Service plus other staff. As we do with Obama. But we also foot the bill for blocking off streets in Paris and NYC so they can have a date, sumptuous hotel rooms in Spain, etc. I hope a wealthy donor has provided the digs in South Hampton but would not be surprised to learn otherwise.

It really is a question of perspective. Many Americans are suffering and his family is enjoying the high life on our dime. He could take time off at Camp David or more modest trips and people would believe he is in touch with their situations. Yes, I know he went to the Gulf, for 27 hours. 10 days in the Hamptons?

Bush spent us into a mess but he vacationed in a self sufficient green home that the press would have been gaga over if Gore lived there. He quit playing golf on weekends because we were at war and he didn't think it was appropriate.

I have no idea if Obama really cares about the people but his actions don't show "he feels their pain". To quote the master.

If I were president, I wouldn't take a single day off. That's right. Not one.

Posted by: keeladog | August 23, 2010 7:58 AM

To few vacations. When he is on vacation he does less damage to our country. I say we send him on vacation for the balance of his term as president. We would all be a lot better off in the long run.

487 Days At Camp David For Bush
Bush has made 77 visits to his ranch in Crawford during his presidency, and spent all or part of 490 days there.

Not mentioned are any other vacation destinations taken, or time just spent lounging around the White House trying to figure out how to eat snack food without choking himself. 33% of Bush's time in office spent out of the office and not a peep from anyone. I don't think it's presumptuous to credit much of this biased behavior to (scary quotes intentional) a "fair and balanced" mindset.

The president may leave the WH, but he is never on vacation. Besides, as much pressure as he is constantly under, and the overwhelming responsibility he has (literally the weight of the world), the guy deserves a break and change of venue. Besides, I'm pretty sure George Bush has the record for the number of days "spent on vacation". Do right wingers really want to go down this road? I wouldn't recommend it. As I recall, Bush was at Crawford when he was warned about a terrorist plot against this country, which he summarily ignored.

Posted by: ggwalt | August 23, 2010 8:36 AM

This is the problem, it's not a D versus R issue. Why does everyone need to always make it Bush against Obama? It's a simple question, does the current president OBAMA, take too many vacations? The answer is, yes. Until the rest of us get a European work calendar then he needs to lead by example...

Butt OUT!! This is not your business. The man works all hours and very hard, I might add.

Posted by: celested91 | August 23, 2010 8:48 AM

So let me get this straight...

Obama has taken 32 offical vacation days in the 20 months sicne he has been in office and apparently that is too many for the typical knuckle dragging Beck-ian crowd with no long term memory.

But...Bush having taken 98 official vacation days at this point in his Presidency, all the while starting two wars and overseeing the largest and most fiscally destructive tax cut the nation has ever seen is "just fine".

Hehehe...WOW. The sheer delusional world some of you live in is amazing.

Posted by: Nosh1 | August 23, 2010 8:49 AM

Not enough, in my opinion. The more he's away, the better we stay.

Posted by: jahoby | August 23, 2010 8:59 AM

Mr Obama is an academic and a community organizer. He is not used to the rigorous schedule that people in the private sector keep. He needs more time off. When I was in college, I was amazed at how little time professors were in the classroom actually working. My Dad was a small businessman and he worked circles around the academics I knew. We should know better next time.

AP (Read and Weap:

George W. Bush left the White House as one of the most unpopular presidents in history. But now, as America approaches its second year under the Obama administration, Bush's mojo appears on the rise. The man who kept America safe from terrorism after the 9/11 attacks is being reassessed quite favorably just as his party surges in the polls.

Contrary to the imagination of the right wing, this president works far longer hours and takes 50-60% less vacation time than the previous president. We just put up with 8 years of a president who took more vacation time by far than any other president. I think we'll do just fine with Obama's attendance record.

Posted by: tfspa | August 23, 2010 9:14 AM

This is just another sickening example of the rightwing media trying to tear down Obama. Not once did I ever hear any of these cocktail-party 'reporters' ever question Bush's taking the entire freaking summer off -- not to mention that he didn't do anything the rest of the time but ride his bicycle anyway. The guy is a spoiled frat boy who never grew up.

The MSM is so busy trying to kiss Republican butt they never bothered to mention that Bush took a month off just as he was told that bin Ladin was going to strike in the US.

Why do you think bin Ladin did it when he did? Because he knew there would be no one at the helm.

Average arrival time at the Oval Office:
G.W. Bush - 6:20 A.M.
B.H. Obama - 9:30 A.M.

Does Barack Obama want to be re-elected in 2012?

Few Americans consider themselves bigger than the presidency but Obama might be one of them. The man in the Oval Office, argues the U.K. Telegraph, may already be preparing for a role as a post-president in a post-American world.
Almost everything Obama does these days suggests that he doesn't care much about being re-elected. Strange as it might seem, perhaps he wants to be a one-term president.
Obama's intervention on the so-called "Ground Zero mosque" issue is a case in point. There was no need for him to get involved - the Islamic community centre two blocks from the 9/11 site is unlikely to get built and there was no political advantage in his making a statement.

Posted by: jahoby | August 23, 2010 9:21 AM

For people always concerned about 'big government', more vacations should be better!

With this 'No we can't' republican opposition, might as well have as many vacations as possible and get away from the Washington madness!

What unmitigated nonsense.
President Obama works his tail off on behalf of the American people. Whether or not we agree with his leadership and policy decisions, he currently holds the position of POTUS. I respect the Presidency, and I respect the Constitution, and that respect transcends any interest in specific policy.
Leave the man alone and especially leave his lovely family alone.

"What unmitigated nonsense.

::::::::::::::::::

You got the first part right.

Obahama is actually shoehorning the job of the presidency into his busy schedule of going on vacation, listening to the comic stylings of George Lopez, swaying to Paul McCartney, playing golf, shooting hoops, taking smokes, eating ice cream, etc. What else is this guy doing? Is he ever actually working 'his tail off'?

Posted by: jahoby | August 23, 2010 9:29 AM

I could be wrong, but I believe while Bush spent time at his ranch in Texas, he ventured out during those vacations to spots around the country to conduct business on 1 day trips. So there is a difference between Obama and Bush, Obama goes and stays on vacation and Bush essentially slept at his ranch but actually conducted business trips that took hours away from his vacation.

It is also not the fact Obama is on vacation, but that he tells everyone to vacation on the Gulf Coast and where does his family spend their vacation? He seems to be one that wants others to do what he says but don't do what he does.

The same goes for his wife. If she would have spent her time vacationing on the Gulf Coast rather in Spain it would have been much better for the American economy and the message she sent to the American people.

Obama did not have time to take a 20 minute helocopter ride to visit the Boy Scout Jamboree but had plenty of time to play golf and travel around the country to raise money for Democrats. Again, he has a problem telling the truth. He just did not want to be associated with the Boy Scouts and support all the good things they do for boys and girls. Instead he thought golf and political fund raising was more important.

Obama now blames poor job numbers on congressional inaction. Wait! His party runs Congress!

Work, work, work...
Just a few minor things to catch up on now that the Fundraiser-in-Chief has gone on another vacation (Don't worry though. White House chef Sam Kass went along, so the first family need not eat ordinary human food.)
-- The Congressional Budget Office says the 2010 federal deficit will be in excess of $1.3 trillion, as in $1,000,000,000,000+. (BTW, the next level we'll be talking about out of Washington is quadrillion, which has fifteen 0's.)
-- Despite Vice President Joe Biden's April boast that administration stimulus spending would spur the economy to add a half-million jobs a month by now, initial unemployment claims jumped a half-million last week, the worst since last November, as national unemployment remains at 9.5% and the economy sheds 131,000 more jobs.

Close to two years into President Barack Obama's term, Bush's mojo with the American public appears on the rise.

The turnaround couldn't come at a better time for Republicans who were hoping voters would be forgetting about Obama's predecessor. Their worries are dissipating fast.

The key reason for Bush's rising popularity? Obama's rapidly declining favorability.

A top Democratic pollster in Washington is circulating a poll showing Bush's popularity in key contested congressional districts is now 6 points ahead of Obama's.

Unlike George Bush and Ronald Reagan he did not own ranches or have a parent that had a great place on the Atlantic coast. So he pays. He is one of our hardest working Presidents and the time he takes off pales in comparison to either George Bush, who holds the all time record, or Ronald Reagan, who also took a lot of time off. When did so many Americans stop being fair minded? We used to be homest people; I miss that.

Bush took a THIRD of his "presidency" on vacation!

And now you wonder if Obama, entering the third year of his Presidency having spent more time in office than Bush did in his first four full years, is on vacation too much?

Ppphhh ...

Posted by: topwriter | August 23, 2010 10:05 AM

With 10% unemployment this is the "let them eat cake" mentality that will ensure this is a one term president. We can only assume the first family understands that and is loading up at the federal trough while they can.

Posted by: billyo1 | August 23, 2010 10:07 AM

Obama's mismanagement of the debate over Park51, the Islamic cultural center and mosque near Ground Zero, is a window into the president we have come to know. This is not a matter of man versus myth. It's man versus man. It's now plainly silly to place Obama beside the great communicators of the television age. He's no Reagan or Kennedy, in this sense. But this mosque incident, like so many incidents before it, also raises deeper questions. Does Obama simply have poor political instincts?

Posted by: jahoby | August 23, 2010 10:08 AM

As Obama takes more and more vacation, one can only hope he considers making it permanent. That would definately be a great improvement

Posted by: hartungc | August 23, 2010 10:20 AM

Its not the number of vacations or the amount of days.. its the locations. The high end vacations. The "optics" as they say are poor and there is certainly a bit of a "tin ear" at play here and also a bit of "in your face"..I do think that the President should have sent the family to Marthas Vineyard last week and said that he would join them the next day and welcomed the troops home from Iraq. That picture would have been helpful to Americans who have in many cases, the feeling that the left does not like the military and many deemed it a snub that he didn't show but it would have been a huge public relations score..I think he has a certain feeling of entitlement that has taken him along way from community organizer...The next few months are going to be tough on him as the underemployment numbers and housing numbers will be staggering.. If the Republican take back the House and the country feels we are moving back to the center he can reestablish his Presidency and his numbers will improve. Corporations will feel more comfortable and start spending the hordes of cash they are sitting on and will start to rehire....All good news for him.

Are you serious, people need to get a life. I guess he goes to the bathroom too much too huh? or should we take a pole on that as well. Dayum, just Ridiculous, they criticize everything the man does and it's so petty. Straight haters.

I so hope you get re-elected Mr. President, that would be the nail in their coffin for sure because they are trying their best to get you out of there by any means necessary.

Keep up the great work inspite of them, Pres. Obama. Four More Years!!! Four More Years!!!!

Posted by: love2much SE | August 23, 2010 10:31 AM

Between 2000 and 2008 one of the left's most cherished ways to ridicule President Bush was to point out how often he went golfing. Bush's golfing was a clear sign that he was ignoring the work he had to do in Washington and that he just didn't care they claimed. He was a playboy, a goof off, a time waster. But now that Barack Obama has come to office all of a sudden the left has found that golf isn't worth noting, even as Obama has played the game more in just under two years than Bush did during his entire eight-year term.

The word hypocrisy comes to mind.

Posted by: jahoby | August 23, 2010 10:33 AM

It is so hard for me to believe the comments about George Bushes vacations.. I cannot imagine why the left goes back to Bush. He is gone and has been gone for a long time..I have only seen him once sitting next to Clinton , in an effort to raise money for charity. How can you compare the two.. Bush, according to the left, was a mindless dope, who didn't read, couldn't speak and was a total failure... Why would you possibly compare the two in any manner shape or form.. That is an insult to Obama. Think about the comparisons you are making. You are diminishing Obama as a person and as a President.. Bush is gone.. He is in Crawford. Forget about him... I just don't get it...

Surely no one can begrudge the President and his family a vacation, but balanced with the mess that most Americans feel that he has perpetuated, his work record does not seem to exactly warrant his taking so much time off. I think it is the perception that is iritating. He speaks well, but lacks heart and conviction. He sounds like a textbook not like a thoughtful leader.

Posted by: sdl63 | August 23, 2010 10:35 AM

The question should be - Do you like BHO or not. Every response, as expected, has been based on that perspective.

Posted by: expostcarrier1951 | August 23, 2010 10:35 AM

I think all presidents take too much time off, regardless of their party. When an average American has about 2 weeks of vacation time a year, there's something odd about the President taking at least twice that amount.

And yes, the job may be stressful, but it's only a four-year term (eight years if you can force yourself to sustain the stress for two terms), after which you're paid a lifetime pension so you can relax and forget about this stress. And if you're unable to deal with the job for a full four-year term, then don't take it.

Well, I guess this means Fall vacation season starts soon.

Posted by: drjcarlucci | August 23, 2010 10:44 AM

Unless you think Bush 43 spent too much at his ranch in Texas, there is no chance you can think the Obamas have taken too many vacations. They have taken several short vacations. Bush spent the better part of August at the ranch each month. By the way, Congress takes the month of August off, too. Come to think of it, for what they get paid, Congress takes a great deal of time off.

Would the WP not perform a better service to its readers if it did not ask slanted questions?

Perhaps it would be more intering to ask why Democrats are failing their own President as well as the voters.

Posted by: jurgenschulze | August 23, 2010 10:47 AM

Every President takes working vacations. No matter where they are in the world, Presidents are working, despite what short clip we see on TV. The only reason this has become an issue is because the MSM liked to make fun of Pres Bush I when he went to Kennebunkport during a recesion, and then, just to be mean, with Bush II whenever he vacationed in Crawford. This is a non-issue for all Presidents, but the press treats it as a non-issue only for Democrats. Let's stop talking about this for everyone.

Posted by: longbow1 | August 23, 2010 10:50 AM

NEWS FLASH: Bush is NOT in office any more!

Posted by: snowbucks | August 23, 2010 10:59 AM

Why are Black Democrats held to a higher standard than White Republicans??

Bush was on Vacation every month, but that does not count because he's white or because he's a Republican???

The only problem Christian Republicans have here is there's a Black man in the White House and he's not the butler!!

Those who practice white supremacy believe Obama should NEVER get a vacation, until every unemployed American is back to work, and all the oil as been cleaned from the gulf...

Yes, Jahoby, hypocrisy does come to mind -- and it's yours.

According to Factcheck.org, in their first years in office, here's how Obama stands up against the Republican icons in vacation days (part or total days):
1) 69 days - Shrub (son)
2) 42 days - Reagan
3) 40 days - Bush (father)
4) 26 days - Obama

You know that Obama works harder than the other side of the aisle. You know that Congress, both parties, is taking all of August off. So all you can talk about is a few golf games? It's called bait-and-switch.

Posted by: groucho42 | August 23, 2010 11:24 AM

This is the age of telework people...why should it matter where he is as long as he can do his job while there? He might not be working 15 hours a day...but I can bet when he is at the WH he is...so that time adds up and he should get his time to have with his family...this is a unique job and it has unique pressures for him AND his family not the least of which is some nut may try to do a second amendment solution...but you would begrudge a sitting president and family protection. Everyone is also complaining about Obama pointing out that he inherited the economic mess we are in and the reality is he didn't break it the GOP did that it takes LONGER than 18 months to dig us out of the 8 years of mess the GOP inflicted on this country....but NOOOO Obama has to fix everything NOW...with a Congress that obstructs everything. What I don't get is people thinking the GOP has any care for any of you. They are BLOCKING recovery and most bills to promote economic recovery so that you all idiots will be mad with Obama and vote them back into power to derail the progress made and to give back all the perks that the big corporate interests need to continue to rape and pillage America. So they are getting back into power on your back... they won't help you now...only when they are back in power and that makes them Economic terrorists to me, every last one of them.

Barack Hussein Obama - on permanent vacation starting January 2013.

Posted by: bmayhewbz@hotmail.com | August 23, 2010 11:34 AM

All presidents are on duty 7 days a week and and more than 8 hours a day everyday of the year no matter where they are. They are stuck with the little, black box and have every briefing while on vacation as they have in the WH.
Why are so many Americans so ignorant and who are they to choose vacation places and times. Arrogance is ignorance matured!

Posted by: judithclaire1939 | August 23, 2010 11:40 AM

The President is tone deaf. I believe that his hearing will improve in November.

Posted by: bobbo2 | August 23, 2010 11:45 AM

The more he's on vacation, the less damage he can do, I think he needs to take the next 2 1/2 years off - - - the country will be better off!

Posted by: phines1 | August 23, 2010 11:54 AM

The reality is that this guy has been on vacation since taking office. He's not the one calling the shots. His handlers tell him what is being put together to address to the fools in this country that are willing to listen, and then he sets up his teleprompter to articulate someone else's socialist ideas.

Barry and his spouse are both taking advantage of the presidential perks, in fact abusing them. The cost of airplane fuel alone would bankrupt the ordinary citizen. They both know that 2012 is the end game so party on!

Posted by: jemvbcnyc | August 23, 2010 11:56 AM

I'm a Republican. The President of the US is on duty 24-7, regardless of his political affiliation. Partisans of both parties waste too much time arguing about how much time the opposing president spends on vacation---with his daily briefings, with his security guards, with his "football," with his team of team of advisors, etc. Both parties would be smart to devote their time to solving the real issues confronting the country.

Posted by: evergrin1 | August 23, 2010 12:09 PM

Haven't we been on this bus before? The President of the United States (not "Barry", not a "shiftless" government worker, not the "Fundraiser-in-Chief") NEVER takes a REAL vacation, one in which he is completely removed from the pressures of the office - he is ALWAYS plugged in, never more than a phone call away, despite all the whining and hand-wringing from the right, where whining has replaced reason and leadership... what leadership?

With Boehner in the tanning bed (when he's not in a bar), and McConnell issuing forth JibJab interviews in which he encircles the questions asked of him, but never quite zeroes in on them - the President takes a few days to reassure his children that he's not the evil ogre he's made out to be. So what? Get a life, righties, and quit whining - it's so pathetic.

Posted by: borntorun45 | August 23, 2010 12:12 PM

And they called Bush an elitist out of touch...HA. Barrack, Michelle and kids are so spoiled and entitled its not funny. They are the Harvard Elites. I think they think its the guilded age. Unemployment out of control no jobs, huge deficits, spend spend spend.. The Party of NO is JUST what we need. Stem the Red Tide on Nov 2. Start with getting rid of Harry Reid.

Posted by: espnfan | August 23, 2010 12:13 PM

Obama haters claim Obama is taking way too many vacations. Some even complain that Obama shouldn't go out for ice cream locally because it ties up traffic and costs the local taxpayers too much for police escort and the blocking of streets. Yet so far Obama has taken 48 days off so far of total vacations since he's been in office. George Bush on the other hand, during the same amount of time in office took 115 days-preferring to vacation in Crawford, Texas instead. How much does it cost to fly Air Force One with an entire force of sercret service and military personel to Crawford Texas versus blocking off a street in VA for a couple of hours?

Posted by: callosumlink | August 23, 2010 12:14 PM

Forget about Obama -- Jahoby has too much vacation time!

Posted by: marmac5 | August 23, 2010 12:16 PM

they say President Bush took a lot of vacations. Where did he take these vacations? at $50,000 a week rentals?, did he cause streets and businesses to be closed? did he take his MIL all over the world on these vacations? no President Bush, when he took a vacation was to his home in Texas. barack, barry, steve or whatever his name is goes all over at the expense of the American tax payer. If you think he can afford $50,000 a week rentals in addition to the other high expenditures, you are mistaken.

Previous Presidents such as Mr. Bush took the WH with them on their vacations, but as far as barack, barry, steve or whatever his name is he doesn't. (well unless he can find a great photo op) He is flying all over and spending hundreds of thousands of dollars (rentals, food, security, etc.) of tax payer dollars. This man is getting as much as he can (and so is his wife) until he is found out to be the fraud he is. This man cares naught about the United States and her citizens, he only cares about one person and that is himself and his agenda. He will be found out and I can't wait for that day.
