For the last time, NO! NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!

Posted by: rhalter3633 | November 23, 2010 11:43 AM

Of course she's qualified to RUN for President. She's a legal resident of the correct age who was born in the US. And she even has the political experience to run (from the '08 campaign) and an excellent chance to win the nomination. She'd be the worst President we've ever had by a long shot, and it would be a disaster for our great country, but yes, she's qualified to run.

Posted by: justin_timberwolf | November 23, 2010 11:43 AM

Horribly worded question. Qualified to run? Sure. Qualified to BE president? Not so much.

Posted by: spidergoose | November 23, 2010 11:44 AM

This is a joke, right?

Posted by: jckdoors | November 23, 2010 11:51 AM

Now let's stop wasting our time on Sarah.

Posted by: chucko2 | November 23, 2010 11:52 AM

I think the poll takers can be forgiven for the wording. Most people would not want to run for such an important office if they felt they were not well enough prepared intellectually to actually perform its duties if elected.

I answered no--meaning she's not capable of being the first person in the land--and it has nothing to do with her gender.

Posted by: CoraCollins | November 23, 2010 11:54 AM

Her citizenship and age make her eligible, but she's not qualified to be a dog catcher.

If the GOP nominates her in 2012 it will be the end of them.

Posted by: tojo45 | November 23, 2010 11:57 AM

Is she qualified to RUN? Not only is she qualified, it is her patriotic DUTY to run for the Republican nomination, because that would be absolutely the best thing for this great country of ours. She would be unstoppable, and her nomination would GUARANTEE not only Prez. Obama's reelection, but also the election of every Dem. on every ballot throughout the land, as well as filling the coffers of the Dem. party for years to come.

Posted by: Dan4 | November 23, 2010 11:58 AM

Enough of Sarah Palin! Can't you media types stop parading her in front of us 24/7? You are absolutely obsessed with this woman. Can't you see that you are the only ones keeping her in the limelight? Most Americans would love to just see her go back to Alaska and stay there.

Posted by: George23 | November 23, 2010 12:02 PM

Compared to who is sitting in the Oval Office now, I'd say she is very qualified to run.

Posted by: sbdot | November 23, 2010 12:04 PM

The sole reason she uses her head is that it is a convenient place to hang her glasses.

Posted by: itsme12 | November 23, 2010 12:05 PM

Caribou Barbie for President? That's right up there with "dead baby" jokes. Why not just hang an "Out of Business" sign on what's left of the USA and be done with it? The GOP has made destroying this country the centerpiece of their fascist/obstrucionist program, so "President Barbie" would be a perfect choice to lead us boldly into oblivion.

Posted by: Bushwhacked1 | November 23, 2010 12:10 PM

I think to be able to run you have to be a natural born citizen and meet the age requirement. She mees that. Is she qualified to "be" President? That would be a big NO.

Posted by: tnsailorguy | November 23, 2010 12:10 PM

Qualified yes, capable NO,NO.

Posted by: cgray0 | November 23, 2010 12:11 PM

She quit her job as governor of Alaska when the going got tough. If she could not handle Alaska, she can't handle this Nation. She's a quitter, a blow hard and a coward.

Posted by: colonelpanic | November 23, 2010 12:24 PM

Sure, she's qualified. In fact, she SHOULD run, to ensure a Democratic victory in 2012. I'm all for it.

Posted by: smudge101 | November 23, 2010 12:25 PM

And $arah's qualifications are what? Mayor of a small town, half-term Governor of a small (population-wise) state, political gadfly, or mother of a happy feet contestant on DWTS? The one thing, however, she does do very well is make money -- to the tune of $10,000,000 a year off the dupes who are willing to pay for it.

Posted by: lddoyle2002 | November 23, 2010 12:25 PM

I agree with George23. The Washington Post seems to look for ways to publicize this woman and her family. You're telling us more than we want to know. How about a Palin-free news day?

Posted by: frankbrit1 | November 23, 2010 12:30 PM

More qualified than the present occupant. Talks good, nice suits, inexperienced, and as it turns out, clueless.

My reservation about Palin is that she's surrounded by neocon interventionist advisers. If she were more Ron Paulish on foreign policy, I might think differently.

Posted by: GrumpyOldMan | November 23, 2010 12:32 PM

That would spell BIG trouble for our county. If she couldn't finish her term as the governor of Alaska, she surely would have a problem finishing one term as President. As Barbara Bush stated "I sat next to her once, thought she was beautiful, and I think she's very happy in Alaska, and I hope she'll stay there."

Posted by: Jazz109 | November 23, 2010 12:38 PM

How could she be qualified?? She has no experience as a community organizer, she never hung out with SDS terrorists, she does not believe in "spreading the wealth",she does not apologize for America's greatness, she believes terrorists are terrorists not "enemy combatants" and should be prosecuted as such, she does not believe the "summer of recovery" was one of recovery, she does not lie to the American people about "new transparency" in Congressional legislation, and the worst sin of all...gasp..gasp..she is Christian and does not hang out with the "in crowd" of the elitist left....

Posted by: bz11 | November 23, 2010 12:39 PM

Some people here seem to think qualified only means eligible; it also means competent. So you all can safely say no without the asterisk. We need someone who's in it for the long haul, not someone who will get bored halfway through and abandon her post to star in reality shows.

Posted by: ComfortablyDumb | November 23, 2010 12:41 PM

As happens too often the Washington Post asks the wrong question.

When the Editorial Board of this paper figures out why this is the wrong question, please contact what may be left of your current readership.

Posted by: 27anon72 | November 23, 2010 12:41 PM

As JUSTIN_TIMBERWOLF said, she definitely meets the qualifications to run for election. Given her immense popularity amongst the Republicans (~75% approval rating), if she decides to run, it's a good bet she'll be the nominee of the Republicans. If she is the nominee and if the trend of increasing GDP and jobs continues through 2012, Obama's a shoo-in for a second term.

Posted by: Gaithersburg1 | November 23, 2010 12:42 PM

Of course Sarah Palin is qualified to run for president. The overwhelming negative response amazes me.

Are there better choices out there? Probably. On the other hand, look at what's happened to this country under the community organizer-in-chief, also known as the current occupant of the White House.

Posted by: jjlc125 | November 23, 2010 12:42 PM

I have to admit I was among the 10% of people who said she was qualified to be president. But that's only because I have a political science degree and know the only qualifications to be president established in the Constitution are 1) 35 yrs of age, 2) natural-born US citizen, and 3) residence in the US for the previous 14 years. Yes, the standards are low.

Posted by: gce1356 | November 23, 2010 12:45 PM

What I think and what the U.S. Constitution says are two differrent things, hence I said "yes" to the poll question. I notice that many of Jay Leno's jaywalkers voted as well. According to Government 101, Sarah Palin is qualified to run for President of the United States. Both she and Barack Obama are more qualified than was John McCain, who was not born within any state within the United States. This is a fact that really gauls me when I think about the birthers.

I agree with Barbara Bush who has recently said that Sarah Palin belongs (should stay in) in Alaska. For all of those Republicans who adore Barbara Bush, I hope that they are listening. The interview will be on Larry King Live on Monday night.

Posted by: EarlC | November 23, 2010 12:45 PM

The question should be two fold:
Q: Is she eligible to run for office?
A: Yes, it is stated so under the Constitution

Q: Is she qualified to be in office?
A: No she is not and she has continued to demonstrate her lack of knowledge.

Posted by: beeker25 | November 23, 2010 12:47 PM

yes. She is qualified. Does she have mental quality/capacity to run as president? Hell NO! Does she have a vigor to run this country? NO! she might quit after 1 year. Do you want her to become president? Hell NO!

Posted by: bigben1986 | November 23, 2010 12:54 PM

She's more qualified than the current occupant of the office.

Posted by: ThisIsReality | November 23, 2010 12:54 PM

I disagree with readers who have had enought of her. I cannot get enough of Palin. I guess it is the voyeur in me-- I find her simple mindedness and shameless duplicity entertaining. I am morbidly fascinated by how some people actually listen to her opinions and listen to her dribbel about what is good for the United States, giving her credit for possessing certain virtues (integrity, competence, and intelligence) despite solid evidence to the contrary. Mostly though, I keep waiting for her to implode. It is like watching one of those Jerkie Boys videos where some kid stupidly attempts some dangerous and ill advised prank, say a back-flip off a table, that predictably results with a split open head. I recognize that I may be one of the ones that keeps Palin around but I cannot help it. I continue to watch and wait for her to finally burst into figurative flames down to cinders, finally losing all credibility in the eyes of her misguided supporters and being exposed for what she truly is. However, I fear that day may never come because it seems there is a certain small minority of Americans who will always blame someone else for her failures, just like they blame who and what they dislike or fear (liberals, news media, minorities, foreigners, people who disagree with them, contrary evidence) for all that they think is wrong in America. They do this without regard for truth or facts, and with an absence of logic and reasoning. Ironically, that movement (far right fundamentalists and tea partiers) that profeses to be for reforming and reestablishing America, may be the greatest threat to this great nation.

Posted by: ericsafudus | November 23, 2010 1:03 PM

Please let her run pleeeeeeeaaaaassssee!!!!!! Tee hee, tee hee. The neocons are so dumb. She would take a beating of epic proportions. A mule would not take that much of beating. This is so funny. She actually thinks she can win. She might have a chance against Osama, not Obama.

Posted by: jlwadd123 | November 23, 2010 1:05 PM

It is the "train wreck" mentality of the media that puts her and people like her on the front page every day so that those not well informed souls envision her as some kind of hero and savior to redeem us from the trevails that we are enduring.

And yes, the question is very poorly worded. Yes, she CAN run for president - so can I for that matter - the question is does she have the skills and knowledge and experience to BE a good President. NO!

Posted by: whidbey96 | November 23, 2010 1:13 PM

Sarah will disprove the lame-stream media myth that some kind of special "qualifications" are needed by a President. The President should have no more education than the average American, so that she can do the will of the people. Other than not having the blindness that comes with too much education, the only thing a President needs is good common sense, of the sort that is developed far away from the big cities and universities. That and faith, of course.

Posted by: turningfool | November 23, 2010 1:16 PM

I'd say I hope she runs assuming she'd get trounced, but with a couple of years to get her propaganda out there to sway the minds of the sheep, it wouldn't surprise me if they elected the most unqualfied person imaginable. She's only popular at all because of the media's obssession with her. Personally I'd be quite happy if I never heard her name again, especially when she isn't newsworthy to start with. Can she get elected? Like I said, before I was saying please let her run. But after witnessing millions and millions of middle class sheep going out and electing people who will do everything they can for their cronies and big business, and absolutely nothing for the people who voted for them, I'm not so confident in that statement now. After all, I'm kind of strange, I don't vote for people who advance legislation that not only doesn't help me, it hurts me. How many geniuses who are receving unemployment compensation went out and voted for people who say they don't deserve it? Meanwhile we have unlimited resources for a war to go after one man, and for tax cuts for rich people and exxon mobil. USA has the dumbest electorate on the entire planet. There are too many whose weak minds can be swayed with obvious lies and transparent propaganda. If the repukes don't want you to vote for someone how hard is it? They call 'am a derogatory name, that's all their followers require for their tiny little brains to be controlled and manipulated. that's why reality TV is so popular. They can't handle anything deeper than that.

Posted by: red2million | November 23, 2010 1:16 PM

She is better qualified than the neo-Marxist sitting in the office now.

Posted by: hill_marty | November 23, 2010 1:16 PM

anyone with the guts to admit it knows if not for Palin's direct input democrats might have swept the House. sorry but it's honest truth. who else was in the trenches calling out the misdoings of individual democrats and obama in particular that stirred up the voters? PALIN! so how is it she is qualified to make a difference but unqualified to make a difference?

imo, media is attempting a narrative that wont fly.

Posted by: ChooseBestCandidate | November 23, 2010 1:17 PM

Of course she's qualified. She's over 35 years of age and a natural-born citizen, which is more than can be said for the current occupant of the White House.

Posted by: AZ-Ham | November 23, 2010 1:18 PM

I really enjoyed ericsafudus comments and agree I to cannot stop watching her do stupid well to the tune of millions of dollars, but remember she is just like you and me. Did you check out her new SUV and house pretty ordinary stuff huh? I don't know about everyone else I own a 2002 Accord and catch a bus to work. She should have just enough money in 2012 to buy the presidency, just like the GOP bought this election. Sorry I digress, yes she is eligible, but h..l no not qualified.

Posted by: MPWTIAN | November 23, 2010 1:20 PM

What terrifies me is that so many voters' decisions tend to be made on how sexy and attractive someone i
s rather than their capacity to serve as chief executive of our country! Are we all victims of the media (perhaps we could stop writing about her, picturing her, having her daughter dance for us, etc., and she could be forgotten! Even really great actors/performances can handle nuances and complexities...she doesnt even qualify there.
Makes me consider Canada

Posted by: Marywexler38 | November 23, 2010 1:30 PM

Is she qualified? Well... that depends. Is the head cheerleader of your local high school qualified to be President???

Look, this is getting dangerously serious. There are enough morons out there (with the right to vote) that could end up making this ridiculous idea a catastrophic reality. So although I can certainly appreciate the amusement factor, we need to be careful with this.

If this bimbo from Alaska, a quitter at two public jobs she has had, is qualified to be President of the United States, then we have learned absolutely nothing from the catastophric decision by some to elect W for two terms, at an immense cost in lives, money and reputation to the United States.

Posted by: fgominho | November 23, 2010 1:42 PM

All the men in Government are so damned corupted. It's time for woman to take over an clean up the rotten sticken mess this Country is in. Woman Rule & Men Drule. Posted by: JWTX | November 23, 2010 1:44 PM

turningFOOL, GW Bush already proved that you can be too dumb to be president. His disastrous administration (misleading us into the wrong war, economic meltdown, only 1.1 million jobs created, harmful concentration of wealth at the top, balloning national debt and deficits, torture is "legal because the lawyer said so") evinces that we do need smart and capable people in the oval office, and that merely believing that you believe in GOD is not enough.

Posted by: ericsafudus | November 23, 2010 1:49 PM

This is a poor question. Under the Constitution, of course she is qualified to run for president. Whether she is qualified to be a good president is up for debate. I suspect her experience as governor of a large state makes her at least as well qualified as an executive as Mr. Obama, not to say that executive competence is the only prerequisite for a successful president. I suspect she couldn't screw up the job any worse than our most recent two presidents.

Posted by: mobrien83 | November 23, 2010 1:50 PM

We are not only becoming know nothing nation and now know nothing president.
We need a smart, intelligent and positive president but not her ever.

Posted by: anitasrivastava2004 | November 23, 2010 1:50 PM

Asking if she's qualified is not the right question. According to the Constitution, she is eligible to hold office along with a whole lot of people who can't add two and two. The questions are: is she electable, and is she capable of performing the duties of the office with competence? My guess is no.

Posted by: forgetthis | November 23, 2010 1:59 PM

Obama wasn't, isn't, qualified, but the idiots voted him in anyway.

Once the GOP and the Tea Partiers finish dumbing-down (or wearing down) the electorate in a few years anything is possible ... maybe in 2016, but before that unless someone is looking for a municipal dog-catcher, she is unelectable.

Posted by: drobbins2 | November 23, 2010 2:14 PM

Because she did not sleep with thousand men a day and has solid records fixing the mess in government offices so she is not qualified? The evil Barbara Bush and his son and Obama who bankcruped the country were qualified to be presidents not Sarah.

The evil things she said against McCain and Kerry were not enough for her and she want to bring more hell on her and her family and all the blood! She should know that in US we do not have Evil queens and kings. She want Jeb Bush to be president, that will not hapen with her insulting Sarah.
Shame on you Washington Post instead of publishing Palin's records you keep asking the same idiot question and publish any insult you can find to diminish Palin. You will have a surprise that will cause indetermined moral and psychological pain. in 2010.

Posted by: mn2010 | November 23, 2010 2:17 PM

The only thing Palin might be qualified to do is be President of the National Quitters Club. Never mind, she'd quit before the first meeting.

Posted by: sumo1 | November 23, 2010 2:18 PM

Pslin is a bigger problem for the GOP establishment: for Romney, Jeb Bush, Pawlenty and other moderate Republicans.

Palin and her husband will not go away but will demand a place at the table for her.

Still developing...

Well, now, as an ultra-liberal democrat, I must acknowledge that Palin is as well qualified as two of our former presidents: Reagan and George W. Bush. Reagan was as clueless as Sarah. The amiable dunce had the second most corrupt administration in history. George W. Bush, in spite of his degrees from great institutions, never really learned anything, and his was the most corrupt administration in history. The American people have demonstrated their stupidity in the most recent election, so why should they not be just as stupid in the next presidential election

Posted by: stknox | November 23, 2010 3:14 PM

The fact that its even conceivable that Palin could run is a major indication that the U.S. is going downhill.

I can't help but think of the international reaction if Palin was actually elected. People would find it hysterical the world over - no one would take America seriously anymore. Our allies wouldn't be able to look us in the eye without laughing, our enemies would mock us and lose their fear, and China would move even more aggressively to replace the U.S. as the world power.

Its just impossible for people, especially people who exist outside our tabloid driven media culture, to take Palin seriously. Since its impossible to take Palin seriously, its not a stretch to say no one would ever take America seriously anymore.

We'd become an international joke, more so than at any point in our history and frankly, if we were stupid enough to make this vapid, petty, deeply stupid woman president than we'd deserve all the disrespect we have coming to us.

Posted by: cjpotter19 | November 23, 2010 3:33 PM

I suppose she meets all the technical requirements. She's of age and a U.S. citizen, if a rather embarrasing one. But I choose to interpret the poll question as asking if I believe she is *qualified to run the country.*

In which case the answer is an unequivical "GOOD GOD, NO!"

Posted by: cb11 | November 23, 2010 3:37 PM

How's that Grizzly Mom doing in the afterglow of a war between 2 (or more) nuclear powers and their allies. Think she has the qualifications to keep the peace, and the diplomacy and skills to handle the disparate desires of the Russians, Chinese, Japanese, Koreans and all the others involved?

I think she lacks all quality to be a president.presidency requires intelligency, tolerance and treating others the way she likes to be treated.Recently she compiled a book about First lady which is in media almost a year, will not consider her as a writer rather copy cutter. Two years ago she was talking about real American, What does that mean by her own account? I think to be american it doesn't require to wear a flag lapel. She is the most polarizing figure in politics lacks leadership skill and quality such as handling diversified America.leadership requires listening society, solving their problem and searching the way to accomodate this diversified America.A woman who is unable to lead one term gevornership, how can she handle extremily complex duty of presidency?I think barbara Bush said it all

Posted by: daniel_tekle | November 23, 2010 3:57 PM

Sarah Palin is just as qualified as Bush, and the electorate was dumb enough to elect him twice.

Posted by: MrZ2 | November 23, 2010 4:01 PM

That kid Levi Johnston has claimed to have some dirt on Sarah that he's not yet willing to divulge, because I think he's waiting for the right moment and the highest bidder. He may be the one who takes her down if she does get the nomination. Stay tuned.

Posted by: kevrio17 | November 23, 2010 4:03 PM

Listen. The country has millions of stupid inhabitants. Haven't they got the right to be represented by ome of their own in the Oval Office? Of course they do!

Err, wait a minute. We had two terms of George W. Bush, didn't we? Stupid people, you've used up your quota until 2092!

Posted by: dotyr | November 23, 2010 4:06 PM

You mean, does she have the gravitas of a less than one term senator who 'wrote' two campaign books?

Posted by: iceman9 | November 23, 2010 4:08 PM

I am amazed that people on here think she is more qualifed than Obama (although it is a small amount). What exactly are her qualifications again? She is an ingorant hate monger and I think the GOP will put a stop to any aspirations she has of running for the White House. I mean seriously, can you even imagine President Palin? That may be the scariest thing I have ever heard.

Posted by: Dem77 | November 23, 2010 4:21 PM

I am more qualified to run foe president than Sarah Palin because I know Russia can not be seen from her backyard. 'Nuff said?

Posted by: skinfreak | November 23, 2010 4:25 PM

Sarah don't listen to these ignorant men ranting on this page they are predjudice just by the mere fact that your not a man, imagine that ?

Posted by: JWTX | November 23, 2010 4:28 PM

She is way more qualified to run because she is a Real Citizen of USA an can produce a Birth Certificate. She's a woman an is level headed an can handle the pressure better than a man cn. Greed & Brides won't be excepted like the men of Gongress do that is why they hate her so much an she is family oriented. She's gonna straighten out the crooked ways of Government. They are scared to death that she will win an cut there special interest with Big Business will come to a screatching hault. That is why The News Media is after her too!

Incidentally, according to the most recent Zogby poll, it appears 61% of the American public doesn't feel Obama is qualified to run for re-election.......

@gce1356 - Obama inherited this mess so quit the BS. And he was the only one who had the balls to take on the tough task of trying to fix it. I don't think anybody else has kept their cool and temper in check as this man after all the BS and lies written about him. He'll be a great 2 term POTUS. Watch and see troll.

Posted by: cholly85241 | November 23, 2010 4:49 PM

Wow, Palinites didn't overwhelm this poll. The answer is obviously no. There are some credible Republican candidates I will consider if they have the guts to put forward a long-term deficit plan.

Posted by: Nissl | November 23, 2010 4:52 PM

Of course she has no qualifications; but that is no deterent at all! None of her rivals are any more qualified, most like her believe the Christian mythology, don't believe in science, think Jesus is coming ... again, that up is down, magic underwear is ok, black is white, and climate change a liberal plot to take something from the "poor" folk! In point of fact, she has more experience that Barry! Given a political system designed to minimize the possibility of competence and maximize the political power of parties and their fringe elements; competence and ability are the last things needed to become a leader in America!

Posted by: CHAOTICIAN101 | November 23, 2010 5:10 PM

@ CHOLLY8524
Yes, poor ol' Obama, he's the first president ever to inherit anything from his predecessor, isn't it?? That multi-billion dollar "stimulus" sure has worked wonders, hasn't it? Where were were you when the election returns came in last month, genius? This "Blame Bush" stuff is positively hysterical now that we're coming up on the midway point of his term.
BTW, hate to disappoint you, but you can safely bet that Obama won't be running against this risible reality TV queen in '12 -- it will be a legitimate candidate with solid executive experience who'll trounce him like the second coming of Jimmah Carter. Never in my life has a more inept, clueless, unprepared narcissist occupied the Oval Office than this fellow.

Posted by: wma98 | November 23, 2010 5:12 PM

WAPO sells advertising space, offering it at a price to the various third part advertisements you see delaying the loading of every page so long.

One of their selling points is number of visitors. So they have to come up with as many man-bites-dog stories as they can.

Though people don't comment on man-bites-dog, they sure will comment on Sarah Palin.
And they (you, we) will be counted as visitors to the page where the advertisers are paying to have you come by.

Get it?

Of course you do. But that didn't stop anybody from coming here to whine about Sarah, or for the other side to lick her crack just one more time before the day is done.

Posted by: eezmamata | November 23, 2010 5:13 PM

Of course she is qualified. I'm shocked, shocked I tell you, that the NOW has not already hauled the Post into public humiliation court, and real court, for even asking the question. And you hate filled folk, the reason the Dems hate her is that they want to believe they alone are allowed to connect emotionally with voters. Palin connects, and does so waaay better than Dem women. Dems also hate that she worked a gas deal that did more for the country than all the Dems put together. She is a genuine threat to the Dems and all of you know it. If she was no threat, you could ignore her. But you know she is for real and you hate that. Happy Thanksgiving! Idea: look up what President Washington said about Thanksgiving Day. :-)

It is sad and maddening that there are thousands of very qualified women out there who would be great at any level of government and yet the Palin and Bach types-because they are photogenic- get all the attention.
Personally, as a man, I would really like to see more women in government. I believe if there were we would be less likely to go to war and we would become a more compassionate nation.

Posted by: danceblade | November 23, 2010 5:43 PM

Of course she's qualified.

The caliber of politicians these days is not what it used to be, and it's just sick that somebody like Palin fits right in with the nitwits that currently occupy the seats of power in DC. :(

Posted by: _BSH | November 23, 2010 5:54 PM

In my heart and soul I pray she runs for President. Please run Sarah run! That is the surest way to President Obama's re-election and a democratic sweep.

Although there is a significant portion of the population short-sighted and ignorant enough to think this half-term governor of a very small state (population wise) should sit in the Oval Office. The good news is the rest of us, the other 70 percent, are terrified of the thought of her being president.

So run Sarah run. I'll contribute to your presidential campaign.

Obama 2012.

$yrup Palin is better educated than most, if not all, college graduates in the U.S. and abroad. Everyone got only a four-year degree in under-grad, but she spent a stretch of seven years in three community colleges and university in three states, such as Idaho and Hawaii, to beef up her knowledge of tweeting and social networking skills. Who wouldn't want a thoroughly educated president who can tweet?

Posted by: ignatius5 | November 23, 2010 6:53 PM

Posted by: truke | November 23, 2010 6:53 PM

Palin is no more qualified to be president than she is to be the pope.

Posted by: psst_limbaugh_keep-ranting_satan | November 23, 2010 6:54 PM

People are kind of missing the point here. The question presumes the no voters are going to say that she hasn't attained any of the high qualities required of our political leadership.

High qualities? She has become a contender not because she has spent any time making herself any more valuable to our country, rather it is because our crop of political scum running the country into the ground now and for the past 20-30 years have lowered themselves to her level.

But hey, you republicans, you democrats, you keep voting for these scumbags. How you can manage to spend all your time blaming each other when you're both equally at fault is a trick only a true idiot could manage.

Sure, Sarah Palin is qualified to be president, because you idiots lowered the bar to the point where she can see over it.

Posted by: eezmamata | November 23, 2010 7:02 PM

How could any president -- and I know the biographies of most of them -- be more empty and vacuous than our current one? He knows nothing of substance, and off a teleprompter sounds even worse than G.W. Bush, and I thought to be impossible!

Every president since Lyndon Johnson has used a teleprompter. The conservative complain against our current president using a teleprompter is childish, unimaginative, and indicates a loser who can't think up derisive things to say for himself, relying instead on some pre-programmed vomit from Rush.

Posted by: eezmamata | November 23, 2010 7:20 PM

I beleive you have to be 35 or older to be eligible for the office. Palin has the intellectual capacity of a two year-old slug. Not qualified!

Posted by: rlampe | November 23, 2010 7:21 PM

Ms. Palin is not a presidential material . She knows it in her heart , particularly after running as GOP vp candiadate in 2008 presidential elections . Ms. Palin should accept this fact and move on. This would o be t good for her recently acquired celebrity status , and financial prosperity . Ms. Palin has not attended an elite school , does not have a lot of general knowledge , common sense , behavioral etiquette and manners etc . These are basic expectation of voters in any experienced politicians . In 2010 mid term elections GOP candidates for the Senate in Nevada and Delaware lost their elections , because establishment GOP leaders did not support them . Also because the voters noted that they were not educated and polished as a politicians , had qualifications similar to Ms. Palin and were backed by Ms. Palin .

Posted by: dmfarooq | November 23, 2010 7:31 PM

As others have pointed out, of course half term governor Palin is qualified to run and to occupy the office. She has shown herself brilliantly adept at speaking dog whistle and her media management team has been boffo. Mrs. Palin has so far successfully convinced a significant portion of the electorate that one does not need intellectual curiosity, knowledge of history or a policy platform other than well worn platitudes and mangled syntax. She channels rural blue collar resentment well; she is familiar (like W) much like the Girl Scout leader in "Everybody Loves Raymond". The 2012 election will be a minefield of trumped up insults (lipstick, retarded) and short on any real sober debate outside of taking America "back". She has a chance, though I suspect she might get "Hillaryed" by Rubio. She has been wont to display that she can actual read intellectual analysis without one coming away from her comments, suspecting Palin of a serious case of dyslexia. No one should write her off though.

Posted by: brainraysvendor | November 23, 2010 8:21 PM

This woman has been kept on political life support by the media. In fact Palin and the Media have a symbiotic relationship, which is an unusual state for two typically parasitic entities.

Palin's nomination by the Republicans is probably the only event that could make me vote for Obama in 2012. Neither are qualified, but it's a question of degree.

Posted by: robert17 | November 23, 2010 8:40 PM

would 2 years in the Senate change anyone's mind? Or was that four? Our recent crew of politicians haven't done a very good job, have they? Both Harvard grads, both likely to bottom out in popularity just above the Carter line.
Seriously, if the economy craters, she is in. If it holds up, she won't run. So maybe someone should ask the FED chairman if he wants Sarah (She will fire him or move the FED to Nome, so he better get the economy fixed. )

Posted by: mbc7 | November 23, 2010 8:40 PM

Sarah Palin needs to go back to school so that she could attain her long life ambition. She is so shallow that she doesn't know that Africa is a continent with fifty three countries. Her world start in Alaska and ends in Wasila.

Posted by: Crown2 | November 23, 2010 8:53 PM

I don't care for the wording of the poll. She is qualified to RUN for president, and it's her right. She meets the age and citizenship requirements, and frankly, despite her obvious shortcomings, she's still well ahead of, say, the typical person who comments at a website.

The better question is whether she's qualified to serve as a president, to which the answer is a resounding no. Not even close.

Posted by: mypitts2 | November 23, 2010 9:20 PM

She meets the age and citizenship requirements but so does my dog, in dog years and according to my veterinarian. But she has no qualifications to actually president. And ss a practical matter, how could she run for POTUS? She will answer no "trick" questions from Katie (Maddog) Couric or other members of the MSM. Would she deign to participate in a campaign debate? Would her campaign be as polarizing and ugly as her Vice-Presidential campaign? Her only good point is her ability to destroy the GOP in its far-right form.

Mostly though, I keep waiting for her to implode."

You're not alone. I'm in the same boat. It's one of the more fascinating cases of the emperor's new clothes I've ever seen, or perhaps will ever see.

It used to be when a vice-presidential pretender for higher office exposed his lack of intellectual chops, he'd be ridiculed and shooed away from the big kid's table. Remember when Dan Quayle misspelled "tomato"? It sunk him.

Remember when Admiral Stockdale turned Ross Perot's campaign into an even bigger joke when he asked existentially, "Who am I? Why am I here?"? He disappeared for good, as did Perot.

Palin couldn't answer a simple question about what she reads, and she now leads all Republican candidates for president.

What gives? I guess it's her looks.

I am a 51-year-old life-long Republican, I have never voted for a Democrat for any office, and nothing is more important to me than beating Obama. Palin would be another Christine O'Donnell, a total disaster. She would be lucky to get 40% of the vote. The Tea Party-Limbaugh-Hannity-Beck venting of rage has peaked, the GOP needs to get serious again to beat Obama. I pray she does not get nominated.

here's the kind of person who likes Sarah Palin - another uneducated person who can't write, can't spell and can't think: "All the men in Government are so damned corupted. It's time for woman to take over an clean up the rotten sticken mess this Country is in. Woman Rule & Men Drule. We are smarter than them an live longer than them. Men are only good to their Mothers, after that they fail misaerable in every aspect of their lives working an personnal!"

And by the way, whoever at the Wash Post thought up that question needs to be transferred to another job.The question was poorly worded.Of course, she's eligible to RUN for President; she's just not qualified to BE President. Too many unemployed smart folks out here -- better pick up your game!

But does she have a birth certificate that says she was born in the U.S.??

Posted by: joeblotnik49 | November 23, 2010 10:27 PM

I think there is an equivocation between eligible and qualified. Qualified can be ambiguous. She is eligible, meets the basic requirement, but qualified, which is related to quality, well, what are the facts?

Her english is atrocious, but we have had other presidents who had their own version of the language also. Her knowledge of economic principles seems to be restricted to getting paid for doing stand up one liners about politics. Her knowledge of the Constitution is what someone told her about the Second and Fourteenth amendments
Her knowledge of geography is that se thinks she can see Russia from her house, can not even refer to it a Siberia, which I doubt she can see that far away, but what is a little exaggeration when it comes to politics.

I have major doubts about her ability to converse intelligently with the rest of the worlds leaders. The French and Germans would make her the laughing stock of the free world, and the Chinese would sell her a lot in the Takliman Desert.

She is not dumb, but she is possessed of a self made ego that allows her to think she actually had knowledge of complicated issues.

She is however the preferred presidential candidate for the Democrats, they can hardly wait, It will be a rerun of Dan Quayle light.

Posted by: bikesac | November 23, 2010 10:32 PM

Sorry, but the poll is unusable as presented.

I have no doubt that Sarah Palin is qualified to run for president, just I am, and my wife, and all of our adult friends who were born in the US. This is why New Hampshire has included people like Tom Laughlin (of the Billy Jack movies) and the "hemp lady" (who favors decriminalizing industrial use of hemp) on the primary ballots of recent years. All these people have met the statutory requirements to run for the office of president, even though they have no expectation of winning.

Is Sarah Palin qualified to BE president?

That is the question you should have asked, and based on what I know about her I'd say the answer is a resounding "no!"

Posted by: AndrewfromNH | November 23, 2010 10:42 PM

Has anyone ever stopped to think about how she would do on the "Are you smarter than a 5th grader" TV show?

In response to those who say "she is just like me", I do not want anyone like me as president. I want them to be far smarter.

Is she attractive? Yep! Is she entertaining? You betcha! Is she presidental material? NO WAY!

Posted by: rich29 | November 23, 2010 10:47 PM

Posted by: ravensfan20008 | November 23, 2010 10:49 PM

Here's the ironic part. Palin is as qualified as Obama under constitution. Any litmus test past the constitution's is astroturf.

But let's thank the WaPo for putting a false premise to the question.

It should ask "Do you want Palin for President?" Of course, then the poll would be accurate. But as asked, most respondents have no clue what qualified means.

Posted by: thelaw1 | November 23, 2010 10:52 PM

I am soo tired of this woman and the country's infatuation with her. The only reason we even know who she is, for the fact that some advisor met her at some luncheon and thought she was a hot mess. Im sure when he suggested her as Mcains running mate he didnt have politics on his mind. This woman ran a town the size of your average Wal Mart, and at that she hired an advisor to do the real work. It scares the hell out of me that this woman was one election and one mihap from the most powerful posisition in the world. She needs to go away and stay there, she thinks she is the real deal too and that scary.

Most intelligent folks - seeing a freight train coming will step off the tracks... our dear Palin stands on the tracks and shouts... "I can see Russia from here."

Posted by: beaus | November 23, 2010 11:50 PM

Let's see . . . it took her six years and six different colleges to earn an undergraduate degree. She was mayor of a small town in Alaska. She quit her job as governor of one of the smallest states in the nation after just 18 months because the job was more than she could handle. She couldn't run her own family well enough to prevent her 15-year-old from becoming pregnant. She thinks Africa is a country. And she can see Russia from her yard. For all of her supporters I offer this thought: if she appeals to you because she's like you, ask yourself whether you're qualified to be president. If she's elected, I'm heading for our northern border. This nation cannot be that dumb. Thomas Jefferson and the other Founders must be rotating in their graves to think someone would seriously entertain this question.

Posted by: FedForYou | November 23, 2010 11:58 PM

DEAR GUN313:

Obama is not qualified to be president??? You're right, two prestigious degrees, president of the Harvard Law Review, state legislator in Illinois, U.S. Senator, great orator, tremendous intellect, a bi-racial son of a single mother and a father from an African nation who grew up in part in a disadvantage Asian nation vs. a housewife from Alaska who likes to hunt, drive a snowmobile, has never been out of the U.S. and couldn't handle being governor of a small state or make it through college without switching schools SIX times! Worldy v. Provincial. Intellectual v. Idiotic. Yes, I want the dumbest person we can find to run the world. I'm sure she would do a better job than Obama. What planet do you live on?

Posted by: FedForYou | November 24, 2010 12:07 AM

If Sarah Palin is unqualified for President, she's less unqualified than the current ineffective lamer and wordy wuss we have in office.

Seriously, why is this standard of experience and established executive track record not even being applied to Obama? He's a total zero as an exec. He had only 2 years as a senator before being elected (half of that on the campaign trail).

There's been a subtle but profound change just now, hasn't there? For whatever reason.

Many hints, but one is that Americans did NOT follow he Fox campaign of 'disobedience' to stymie air travel, the 'opt out'.

Bet the Tea Party, and the nasty obstructive House members hit the skids, too. America is back, perhaps. From that bad dream, including the idiot Palin

Posted by: whistling | November 24, 2010 7:30 PM

It is surprising the see that more than 90% of the people participating in the poll do not understand what the qualifications for president are. Governor Sarah Palin is, especially compared to Barack Hussein Obama, II, clearly qualified to run for president. She is at least 35 years old and is a natural born citizen--that is, both her parents are U.S. citizens and she was born in the U.S. Further, at no time in her past did she swear allegience to another country.

Obama? His dad was never a U.S. citizen. He is born of a polygamous family--not very American unless you're Mormon--and for most of his first 10+ years he lived in Indonesia. He, by his own admission, didn't get his first U.S. passport until 2004 at the age of 44. So, for the first 44 years he considered himself a foreign citizen, traveled as a foreign citizen, and so forth. He never released his full birth certificate to substantiate the circumstances of his birth.

But, back to Gov. Palin. She is Constitutionally qualified. And, further, compared to Obama, also more experience-wise qualified than that community organizer that has proven to be such a failure as president.

Finally, I seriously doubt we'd see Gov. Palin going around apologizing for American, bowing to Saudi kings and Japanese emperors. No, these are not things Americans do.

It might be that the Neocon Faction is content with their Mole (We've already seen plenty of testimony to Obama's complicity with the Neocn Faction: his palling around with Rice, Kissenger, and Baker, the reappointment of Gates, Tiny Tim and Helicopter Ben, while just last year he shielded Cheney from prosecution for War Crimes ) in the White House for another 4 years while war criminals like Bush and Cheney keep a low profile. So they will run her against Obama-knowing that she will lose.

I wish Sarah Palin and her very dysfunctional, unintelligent family would just STFU and take Barbra Bushes advice and Stay in Alaska ....

"By golly" Palin doesn't understand anything about America and its problems. How would she handle this economy, Afghanistan, Iraq, Korea, China, health care, unemployment? She never says anything constructive. Nothing. Ever. This woman is an advertising gimmick, a product, a thing sold like cheese. Ask her a real question about this world we live in, and "by golly" Palin has nothing constructive to say. Nothing. Ever. She's a proven quitter, and, what's worse, a proven ignoramous about our government, history, and constitution. Only the enemies of America could ever hope for her to be a leader here.

The media and I mean almost all of it are pushing Palin. You cant watch hardly any show without them pressing it. Last night, Nightline went from Bristol DWTS to Sarahs Campaign, and barely mentioned who won the DWTS. The only reason Bristol got to stay that long is because Disney is Repub company and they own ABC. Why do you suppose Bristol got on the show in the first place? She is not a star.

When it comes to the legal qualifications to run for president, she certainly passes the test but when it comes to having the "qualities" qualifications, she is lacking in the upstairs department, seriously.

Obama is a Puppet of The Bush/Cheney backed Neocon Faction. Palin's level of ineptitude is so blatant, that if she were to take office the puppetry involved in running this country would be much too embarrassing for Americans let alone the rest of the world to stomach. That is why she will never become a US president. The Owners, The Ruling Class, The Oligarchs... another words the people who really run this country would never allow this to happen. So in reality this discussion is quite silly.

She's not, but Obama IS ?!?!?!?!?

Sarah Palin has more experience in her little finger then BHO has in his whole body.
BHO is not qualified to be president. BHO promised handouts to the minorities, and so they came out to vote, now they're pissed that they didn't get the handouts, Because they might actually have to get a job and do for themselves, instead of getting free from the Govt and us that, Actual are the WORKING people that pay into such organizations that allow the lazy ass's to collect from.

Sarah Palin is only quaified to participate in Freedom of Speech, and she does that very well. She is old enough to run for president and I suspect was born here, but if anyone were to vote for her they would be voting for a more ignorant America. I can hear the jokes: How many years did it take for the American president to complete college? Or How many colleges did it take for Sarah Palin to find one that would accept her credits and let her graduate? How many jobs has Sarah Palin walked away from and will she walk away from the presidency.
Sadly, she appeals to the basic hard working blue collar American. Perhaps laborers feel far removed from the educated people who tend to be our leaders. This is sad however. One would not go to a Harvard grad to have their home built, or their car repaired, so why would we want someone of Ms. Palin's skill to be the President of the United States of America?
I too am proud of America for choosing an educated man who will work hard for all Americans and lead us in the right direction. If a mistake is made, he is smart enough to know that some ideas do not always work the way they were planned to work, and a correction will be made.
Sarah Palin should listen to Barbara Bush, but if she does not, we will all be entertained.

If Sarah Palin is a candidate, her number one contributors will be the TV comedy writers.

Even though Palin will be a disaster,America will collapse while laughing.

I think Palin is much better suited for the ignorant, immature, and senseless nature reality shows provide than think that she can run a country. She not only does not know much about American history but apparently not about geography either, making her a perfect fit for realty tv. Anyone making a comment that they can see Russia from Alaska is obviously clueless on many many levels. Sarah Palin is the poster child for the declining quality of education in our country. To think she feels sorry for her daughter to be under a public microscope because of her own doing is comical when in fact if it wasn't for that microscope her daughter would not have the opportunities she has been given (ie. DWTS) to provide for her child that would have otherwise been on welfare under other circumstances. Sarah should be happy to have paved the way for herself and her daughter to have their 15 minutes of fame and leave it there.
