Should Pope John Paul II be on the 'fast track' to sainthood?

On Faith blogger Julia Duin reports on how Pope John Paul II is on the road to sainthood. The Vatican announced Friday morning that the legendary 20th century pope will be beatified in May.

As a Christian of another brand I sat and watched him say the words of the Bible. I got a warmth from John Paul just over the television. This is the kind of man that you wish would move in next door.

Even that JP2 did great things, is his hands clean of the cover up crimes of the sex abuse children via of SILENCE THE TRUTH TO PROTECT THE IMAGE? Is this FAST TRACK sainthood for the RCC political means? The timing is a great mistake.

As a life-long Catholic I STRONGLY oppose his sainthood. Clearly he covered up crimes of sex abuse of children--only read Matthew 18:6 to know the special place Christ has in his heart for children and his intense reaction for those who harm them. We believe in a loving and forgiving God and I am sure JP2 is with his God, but we have better models of saintly behavior than JP2--try Dorothy Day for starters!!

But Saint Juan Paul could become the patron saint of pedophiles!

Mother Teresa was on the "fast track" also. Then when they found she had lost her faith for the last 30 years she was never mentioned again. Do people really believe this silliness in the 21st Century?

JJDEF: ALL Catholic saints undergo what St John of the Cross called "The Dark Night of the Soul". All. No exceptions. Even Jesus questioned his mission and challenged His Father to take away his pain in the Garden before His arrest. Mother Theresa will be a saint.

JPII? I hope not. He clearly covered up massive pedophilia.

as a person who met the pope as a young boy and wasn't molested, i think he'd be a great saint.

One more saint won't make much difference ... unless it gets him a better seat in heaven.
