Paying Backup QBsWithout Busting the Cap

From Gus Frerotte to Kerry Collins and Matt Cassel the value of a back-up quarterback has never been so important but, given salary cap constraints, how do you attract and keep them?

Ironically, the best way to insure the most seamless transition between starter and backup at the quarterback position is to make sure you spread the wealth to other positions.

Since backup quarterbacks had little or no market value to begin with they are usually pretty easy to keep around
