BJ :

Football without a doubt. Unless by some miracle McCain dropped out or Palin took off her shirt, I can't see why anyone would watch the RNC. We've known for months who the winner is. There is no suspense.

2pacolypse Now :

The NFL is a multibillion dollar industry which has long supplanted baseball as America's pastime. The RNC foo-foo event is a boring snobfest that happens every four years that shows Americans just how out of touch they really are with us non-scandaled americans. There's really no choice here. New York, one of the largest t.v. markets in the nation and defending Super Bowl champions and Washington, D.C., it's the Redskins or nothing in this town. McCain should schedule his speech right at halftime so the few hundred not watching football or checking on live fantasy scores may actually tune in.

Mulva :

Barbarians are banging at the gates when the citizens pay more attention to their games than their government.

WaPoLiveFan16 :

Both will inspire profound thought, radical comments, joy and anger, hope and despair, and inevitably heavy drinking.

MossMan :

This isnt even close, I have to agreed McCain should do the speech at halftime as well as cut the speech in half so the 2nd half is good to go...HahA...New York and Washington are the two biggest politcal towns anyway...Here McCain speak for 2 more months...

Commodus :

In response to Mulva:

Bread and Circuses!!!!!!!!

Jerry :

In response to Mulva: DELORES!!!

Jonathan :

I honestly don't know what the conflict is. In the Central time zone, NBC is showing its "Sunday Night Football" from 6-9 pm. The RNC coverage doesn't start until 9 pm. So, unless we have another Heidi game, people can watch both!

dcgirl675 :

its more fun and exciting to watch my beloved REDSKINS that hear old John speak.

HAIL TO THE REDSKINS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mike :

John who?? It's time or some football, I'll listen to the recap after the game.

B~ :

The only John I am interested in hearing form is Madden.

bob tichell :

Sorry. Both McCain and the Redskins have no hope. But this Bills fan(not much hope either) will watch the NFL over the convention of the most pitiful failures in America every time.

hbkbccsax :

REDSKINS all day!!!! Redskins versus a division rival who just won the super bowl. McCain is old and annoying. Most of DC and New York are Dems anyway so they dont care.

WT :

Depends on who's winning at the start of teh 4th...

Tommy :

I would rather watch the teams get on the bus than watch the garbage coverage we're getting of the whole presidential election.

The only point driven home is that anyone inolved in politics is self-centered and egotistical.

Dre' :

It will be more exciting to watch the Deadskins get beat than to watch the old man lie!!! Sorry John - "NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN".

PS. How bout dem Cowboys???

Dang! The same thing could be said about our current superstar athletes LMAO!

Iraq Vet :

Are you ready for a boring speech? Sorry, just does not ring like; ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!

clfrdj :

Since the non-thinking bureaucrats at Montgomery County Public Schools scheduled back-to-school night for several schools this evening, I won't be watching the early portions of either event!

Sonel :

Dre' .....and I KNOW that's right.

Cowgirl here and how can I miss the redskins getting their butts whooped!

Have class tonight but telling the professor early...I am getting out in
enough time to see the second half at least. GEEZ dah dah dah dahhhh! da da da.....I am so ready!!!!

SuperBowlSkins :

Oh yeah, John McCain, I'll be watching him. I love him. He was awesome in the preseason, that's right. He's that new punter for the Redskins. I sure hope he's better than Frosty -- he's was kinda pissed at loosing his job.

rb :

Who would want to watch McCain throwing a "Hail Mary Pass," to Palin? Put on that game.

rfg :

we will watch McCain.

harry odenton :

hail to the Redskins!!!
the hell with McCain!!!!

rfg :

We will be watching McCain!!!!!!!!!

Big Walt :

No contest. Watching the Redskins takes priority, especially over the lies and empty suits (dresses) that are the Repukican party.

Just can't wait to see the line judge raise his arms for another Portis touchdown. You'll never see McBush do that. Raise his arms, that is.

EnjoyEverySandwich :

I probably won't watch too much of either since I have a life. But between the two the football game is better.

Sorry, Mulva, but this is a political convention. It doesn't tell us anything useful about our government. It is just a political ad, more long-winded than usual, that seeks to manipulate the emotions of voters. It is carefully choreographed to ensure that no actual information is presented. These slimy mountebanks are a far greater danger to the republic than any barbarians at the gates.

Big Walt :

Definitely watching America's newest action figures Hanoi John and Caribou Barbie.

Yuri Lipitzmeov :

Giants 24 - Redskins 3
and Mini Me Snyder blows a gasket - LOL
Go G-Men!

GoSkins :

This isn't a fair question. Skins in the opening game of the NFL season vs. the defending SB champs? A division rival, too? Who cares what McCain says?! Go Skins!

Bill :

Redskins baby.....McCain and Palin can do with out me. Voting for Obama anyway. Tired of republicans and their tired ways.

Skins :

Skins! RNC zzzzzzzz

Charlie :

None of the above, both are overrated

Peke :

Why would I want to hear the same lies that we have heard for the past eight years, more tax breaks for the rich and the oil companies: how well the Iraq war is going, BUT we are still unable to reduce the number of troops, how well the economy is FOR THE RICH, how we need to drill for oil instead of investing in alternatives, how a free market is good for the USA, but more jobs are going to China,Taiwan and the average wage for WORKING Americans had decrease under Bush.
Tell me why I should listen to McCain?

Matthew Green :
Redskins!!!!

I might be watching McCain in a tiny window on my computer.
RNC=yawn....

Terry Jac :

Hail to the Redskins. To Hell with McCant

letgetrealpeople :

Football. Who wants to watch "vote for our vagina, not the vaginas we might have chosen."

Gus :

watch the Gov of 500,00 people (and 2 million moose) and an old geezer? haha.. no contest! REDSKINS!

Arnhart :

The McCain speach is not nearly as important as The Chosen One going one on one with Bill Oreilly. I'll be watching the Skins of course, but Thank God for my DVR cable box! I don't know that the Skins will win, but I'm pretty sure Oreilly will.

WCSkinsfan :

Football over McBrainless and Phailing anyday.

Degs :

My fellow Americans, tonight we have a choice to make, and when you enter that living room, the stakes couldn't be higher.

On the one hand we have a 72-year-old senator from Arizona, backed by many enormously rich d-bags. On the other, we have a 53-man roster backed by one enormously rich d-bag.

Final score: Professional athletes making millions per year wearing tights 24, Old man aspiring to make $400,000 per year 7

JoJo :

Watch both idiots. They are on at different times. Your either with us or against us. NObama

Hotlaska08 :

What type of Communist would watch some silly game while the country's future is in danger? Tonight’s prophecy, John McCain’s stage will be shaped like a giant gold cross.
http://hotlaska.blogspot.com/

Majeth :

I am watching Roddick and Djokovic

C R White :

Amen Peke! I was stupid enough to watch their newest attack dog, Palin last night.
More of the same old rant, rave, and fear mongering. When will these evil people figure out that we are smart enogh to want to hear their positions on the problems facing our country rather than their unending partisan assaults on their opponents. Its a no bainer. More of the same old lies or competition between talented atheletes?

Jason :

Hotalaska08 -

The answer is you, since you Alaskans get free money from oil companies who are ripping off the rest of us hard working Americans.

Besides, America is the home of free choice, trick!

DonJulio :

The RNC needs a Hail Mary - ironic for all the religious fear breeders on the right side of their bench.

RNC = SnoozeTV. Would be great for a Saturday afternoon nap. Wait, isn't that John McCain's naptime?

I'll watch the highlights - to see the same OLD rhetoric, but this is like watching a FOX News annual parade than a convention about change and reform.

Sad commentary. John McCain - It is your fourth quarter and you are about 8 years too late.

hermann :

I'll watch the game and I don't even watch football regularly. Screw the McCain/Palin crap tonight!

By the way, you guys comments are tooooo funny!

Tanner :

I already know what's going to happen during the RNC tonight, but I have no idea what the outcome of the tonight's game will be. John McCain rants against "liberal media", Redskins maybe upset Giants?

WOW :

Everyone will be watching the game, except for a few.... The Republicans have totally lost their minds with the chose of Palin for VP. This is ridiculous. One missed heartbeat and a beauty queen becomes President of the most powerful country in the world! Have we lost our minds?

Alligator Al :

The drama of the Skins/Jints set-to far surpasses any mush the RNC/McBush gumfest can serve up in terms of watchability. To wit:
1. Will Jason Campbell lay an egg?
2. What will happen with Zorn? He goes from obscure QB coach to HC, OC, play caller and JC diaper changer in this game. How will he handle it all?
3. What the Skins score any points with the new West Coast offense?
4. Will the defense lay an egg now that the Greggster has left the house?
5. Will Giants Stadium be renamed the Bird's Nest in honor of all the eggs the Skins lay?
6. Will Dan Snyder and Vinny Cerrato be in the same box to watch the game?

roboturkey :

no contest. I can pretty much anticipate all of McCain's pat lines and pandering, if not the mash-up he usually creates trying to act natural while reading a teleprompter.

football could be better, even with the wall to wall commercials and faux patriotism everywhere on display. But the No Fun League looks like an even more boring than usual year until the playoffs

atually, both are pretty lame. a good evening to get outside and enjoy the great weather.

clv :

Football!!! I already know where McCain stands on the two major issues (1) the economy, and (2) the war in Iraq. So I am voting for Obama.

T :

Will it help or hurt the GOP?

AZSKINSFAN :

Dear John-

As a lifelong Redskins fan currently displaced in AZ-I am certain there are important things you have to say on this important night. That's why I'm not leaving you for that other old rich white guy.

At my house-we will be watching the game.

Honest American :

What are you people thinking. Football is more important than the leadership of the free world? Today is a new world and our future hangs in the balance.

mary :

Neither. I don't watch football, and McCain is just going to trot out the same tired attack lines and talking points and try to convince people he's not running for Bush's third term. Obama's got my vote.

harold :

I'll be reading a book. . . a much more productive use of time.

Bin Laden :

I'm just hoping you idiots elect the old warrior and the hockey mom - so you continue to do my job for me. In my wildest dreams I never imagined the US would spend trillions of dollars and squander the good will of the world after we attacked you. It is almost too easy.

John Sheridan :

I look at the BIG picture in life. Football is just a game played by millionaires for entertainment only, even if it is fun to watch. I respect their talent. And most football players are Republican. They know Obama wants their pay checks! Most players don't even live in the home town of the team they represent.

The RNC Convention is more important for our great nation at a crossroads. The dems have scary, tax-happy, liberals whom are hostile to God fearing people and are trying to move us CLOSER to SOCIALISM. I like a couple of their ideas, but until we get alternative energy fully in place, we need OUR OWN AMERICAN OIL for energy instead of being held hostage by middle eastern dictators controling oil. I like Governor Palin for being bold and fresh and her small town values and John McCain for his bravery in a prison camp. He stayed with his soldiers instead of coming home eary. He will stand with all Amerioans too!

ARDesh :

Of Course!!!! Football.
What the Republicans going to say is highly predictable. let me fight a war with your (middle class) money, poor people (who don't find civilian jobs) and we will be there for big GLORY.
Welcome MNF......

Chris :

John Sheridan, some would argue that politics is just a game played by millionaires for their own entertainment... It just has higher stakes. Governor Palin is bold about small town values, less bold about the fact that she is in Big Oil's pocket and has no interest in the alternative energy you mention. And unless you make as much as the average NFL player, Obama's cutting your taxes more than McCain is. All that being said, go Big Blue.

J Quidam :

Channel Flipping...

The author of this article obviously overlooked the possibility of channel flipping. If and when both get too boring **yawn** it's time to hit the sack.

Healey1 :

..Oh yea, like I need to see more of that old coot!!!!

Gary P. :

Just finished watching the first half of the new season's first game, Skins v Giants.

Fellas... it's going to be a long winter for you. I feel for ye faithful.

Time to watch animal planet or something more interesting.

(i hope they win after I post this)

allie7 :

I mentioned to my Obama supporting husband that Coach Gibbs was going to speak at the RNC convention and I could tell by his eyes that he was saddened and disappointed. You just don't mix his love for the Redskins with politics! This is like Sophie's Choice.

Dave :

Hell Yes! The NFL! I hope it goes into double overtime.

RAY :

JUST READ EVERYONE COMMENTS AND I CAN REALLY SAY THAT I AM GLAD THAT EVERYONE IS LOOKING AT OR HAVE WATCH THE GAME AND NOT PAYING ANY ATTENTION TO THE RNC. MIDDLE CLASS AND WORKING TWO JOBS. GO DEMOCRATS

Dave :

McCain's speech was OUTSTANDING! It's truly ashame so few people watched it tonight.

kyle :

hey Allie, Coach Gibbs retired last year. It's Coach Zorn now... might be why you got the glassy-eyed look. :-)

marcpenn1 :

Actually, I was hoping for overtime. I wanted to see what NBC thought was more important, the NFL or the "New Dixiecrats".

MZF :

Did anyone see Joe Gibbs speak at the RNC. Seems that Gibbs is a christian taliban trying to convert the whole country. No wonder he quite/fired when he couldn't convert Danny.

PO'd :

Did John McCain really have the totally classless and tasteless nerve to show one of the planes hitting the WTC and it coming down?

I know Republicans can barely get up enough excitement to listen to him, but that has to be a new low.

There is something really really wrong with the Republican party.

bpk :

McCain vs. NFL = epic fail for Mac

JDJ :

The convention, for those no longer playing "pick the lessor of two evils" game, is over and Bob Barr was selected to run for President.

Who are these "Republicans" you speak of? I thought the CROOKED GOP LIARS and BIG SPENDERS were long gone!

You mean after everything BUSH did; the LIES, the ILLEGAL WARS, the SUPER EXPANSION OF GOVERNMENT OVERHEAD resulting in ASTRONOMICAL DEFICITS, TORTURE, VIOLATION OF OUR LAWS, ETC, there are those that will still vote GOP? OMG what does it take to wake-up these morons?

VOTE LIBERTARIAN PARTY! The ONLY PRINCIPLED PARTY IN THE RACE!

SORRY NO BIG ADS, as we don't accept BRIBES like the MAJORLY CROOKED TWO! Do your own homework at lp.org and then do the RIGHT THING, VOTE LIBERTARIAN PARTY!

QUIT VOTING THE LESSOR OF TWO EVIL! That's how we got into this MESS!
