The RNC v. Opening Night
Which Will Better TV -- and Why?
With John McCain and Eli Manning vying for America's attention, which will provide more excitment tonight, and why?
PO'd: Did John McCain really have the totally classless and tasteless nerve to show one of the planes hitting the WTC and it coming down?
I know ...
bpk: McCain vs. NFL = epic fail for Mac...
JDJ: The convention, for those no longer playing "pick the lessor of two evils" game, is over and Bob Barr was selected to run for President.
Wh...
Football without a doubt. Unless by some miracle McCain dropped out or Palin took off her shirt, I can't see why anyone would watch the RNC. We've known for months who the winner is. There is no suspense.

The NFL is a multibillion dollar industry which has long supplanted baseball as America's pastime. The RNC foo-foo event is a boring snobfest that happens every four years that shows Americans just how out of touch they really are with us non-scandaled americans. There's really no choice here. New York, one of the largest t.v. markets in the nation and defending Super Bowl champions and Washington, D.C., it's the Redskins or nothing in this town. McCain should schedule his speech right at halftime so the few hundred not watching football or checking on live fantasy scores may actually tune in.

This isnt even close, I have to agreed McCain should do the speech at halftime as well as cut the speech in half so the 2nd half is good to go...HahA...New York and Washington are the two biggest politcal towns anyway...Here McCain speak for 2 more months...

I honestly don't know what the conflict is. In the Central time zone, NBC is showing its "Sunday Night Football" from 6-9 pm. The RNC coverage doesn't start until 9 pm. So, unless we have another Heidi game, people can watch both!

I probably won't watch too much of either since I have a life. But between the two the football game is better.
Sorry, Mulva, but this is a political convention. It doesn't tell us anything useful about our government. It is just a political ad, more long-winded than usual, that seeks to manipulate the emotions of voters. It is carefully choreographed to ensure that no actual information is presented. These slimy mountebanks are a far greater danger to the republic than any barbarians at the gates.

The drama of the Skins/Jints set-to far surpasses any mush the RNC/McBush gumfest can serve up in terms of watchability. To wit:
1. Will Jason Campbell lay an egg?
2. What will happen with Zorn? He goes from obscure QB coach to HC, OC, play caller and JC diaper changer in this game. How will he handle it all?
3. What the Skins score any points with the new West Coast offense?
4. Will the defense lay an egg now that the Greggster has left the house?
5. Will Giants Stadium be renamed the Bird's Nest in honor of all the eggs the Skins lay?
6. Will Dan Snyder and Vinny Cerrato be in the same box to watch the game?

I look at the BIG picture in life. Football is just a game played by millionaires for entertainment only, even if it is fun to watch. I respect their talent. And most football players are Republican. They know Obama wants their pay checks! Most players don't even live in the home town of the team they represent.
The RNC Convention is more important for our great nation at a crossroads. The dems have scary, tax-happy, liberals whom are hostile to God fearing people and are trying to move us CLOSER to SOCIALISM. I like a couple of their ideas, but until we get alternative energy fully in place, we need OUR OWN AMERICAN OIL for energy instead of being held hostage by middle eastern dictators controling oil. I like Governor Palin for being bold and fresh and her small town values and John McCain for his bravery in a prison camp. He stayed with his soldiers instead of coming home eary. He will stand with all Amerioans too!

John Sheridan, some would argue that politics is just a game played by millionaires for their own entertainment... It just has higher stakes. Governor Palin is bold about small town values, less bold about the fact that she is in Big Oil's pocket and has no interest in the alternative energy you mention. And unless you make as much as the average NFL player, Obama's cutting your taxes more than McCain is. All that being said, go Big Blue.
