The ultimate dark horse, or dark aquatic mammal, for this season is the Dolphins. But even I won't claim they have the "best shot" at winning a surprise title this season.
I'm picking the Seahawks. And I loathe the Seahawks, so it pains me to say this.
They dumped S. Alexander (the Tiki Barber "addition by subtraction" candidate of the year), they play in a cupcake division, they'll want to send Holmgren out a winner, AND they're completely under the radar because they're out here in America's forgotten corner.

Don't count out the Philadelphia Eagles. With a healthy McNabb and an exciting defense, they may be the sleeper team. They wer 8-8 last years, but lost several games by 3 points or less, and with some better time management, could have been 12-4.

I think the biggest turnaround this year will be the NY Jets. They have a pretty weak schedule minus the two games against the Patriots. While I don't think they will win their division, I can see them getting a wild card.

A dark house comes out of nowhere and that to me does not include teams that are thought to be contenders... playoff teams from last year are all contenders unless they have had a major drop off in talent.
Anyway, I agree with the person that suggested the Eagles. They have the whole package... the element of surprise, an average schedule, a healthy McNabb, a double threat RB (receiving/rushing), able backups and a solid defense and defensive coach. They also have the experienced coach that has been there. They have all of the elements to chrage from out of the pack of the field and make one hell of a stretch run.
Only the Panthers can come close but they do not have the RB or the defense that matches up with Philly... however...
since the Steelers will win it all this year anyway, I find all of this moot!!!

Out of the NFC I look for Detroit to be the Dark Horse. The NFC North will not field a team that even remotely goes 13-3 this year, which brings me to the AFC's Dark Horse, the New York Jets. No, no Superbowl for the Jets this year, but Favre does sneak them into the playoffs.
