What part of "he has served his time" don't you two morons understand? What is Va gonna prosecute the man for he plead guilty to everything that people of your kind irrational thinking wanted him to. Get REAL! What do you clowns want from the man? He's already plead guilty served his time, and community service paid back part of his salary, filed for bankrupcy etc..etc..when is enough, enough. Let's look into some of your pasts and see what we can come up with. LOL! Oh and JONDERCIK1, who cares because you won't be watching if he plays. GOOD that will be one less bitchass that real sports fans will have to worry about commenting because you won't be watching. I'm out!

Michael Vick isn't worth caring about. There are plenty of current and former NFL players who spend a great deal of their time contributing to good causes and who aren't dog killers or thugs. Write about them, not about a jerk like Michael Vick.

If my Cleveland Browns had any desire to win, they'd sign him. The NFL is a violent sport marketed with beer & sexy cheer leaders. The rates of substance abuse and domestic violence for players AND coaches astonishing. The notion that Michael Vick shouldn't be in the NFL is just a total joke. Put him on a short leash, but it is ridiculous that there could be football on sundays and one of the most talented players in the country isn't going to be playing. He's exciting and he can win football games. For crying out loud, the franchise in this city is called the REDSKINS, the baseball team in Cleveland is the INDIANS w/ the most ridiculous characature as a mascot you could ever imagine. But Michael Vick has offended our sensibilities so much that he never gets to play again...anywhere?

I find it interesting that the most uncivil, illiterate comments posted are by the Michael Vick defenders. Rather than make convincing arguments in defense of Vick, they simply insult those who criticize him, which is typical of lazy, ignorant thinkers -- when they can't address a point on its substance, they take the easy way out and attack the person who made it.

There are players in the NFL who have killed people! Why are we discussing a person who paid for dogs that friends/relatives fought and killed. The Feds only went after Vick because he was the big fish. He was not present during the majority of the dog fights and killings. But he financed the operation, so he should have been punished.
July 14, 2009 10:39 PM | Report Offensive Comments
The Feds have unlimited resources...VA doesn't. They can't pursue crimes against property (dogs) too many human crimes drugs, prostitution, murder. First offenders never serve time for property crimes. He can play in the league, we encourage people to earn a living, so that they don’t become dependent upon the taxpayer.

He has done his time. Let him go back to playing the game he loves. PETA has gotten absolutely ridiculous. At the Veterinarian conference in Seattle a short time ago, they even tried to stop the time honored tradition of tossing fish. Good grief! Tourists come from all over the world to the Pike Place Market just to see this. The fish are already dead. PETA needs to find some realistic issues to complain about.

The NFL is a job, plain and simple. Most of the negative comments about Vick derive from jealousy, prejudice, envy or ignorance of the circumstances. Thankfully none of our comments on this post matter. Vick will play somewhere and the world wont end. My problem with the "animal lovers" is they choose which animals deserve that love. They don't want to protect cows, chickens, shrimps, bats, pigs,lambs,deers..you get the picture, A crime was committed a man served his time, Donte Stallworth killed a man and got 30 days, protest that!

I will never understand some people. Vick has more than serve his time. As already been stated first time offenders for animal cruelty rarely get the amount of jail time Vick received. Again as already been stated Vick has served his time and paid a HUGE financial penalty. Yet there are those on here that want more. When does it end?
July 14, 2009 11:51 PM | Report Offensive Comments
I certainly am in no way condoning Vick's actions but let's keep things in perspective. In Alaska where I live many people race dogs in the form of dog sled racing. The racers breed scores of dogs in the hope of getting a few good racers. Many times the unwanted dogs are destroyed. Dogs are sometimes shot and at times drowned. No one says anything to these breeders, no one goes to jail. Dogs in AK are treated like beasts of burden, chained to their houses and only let off to pull a sled. Of course these aren't pets but working dogs. So to see Michael Vick serve jail time and possibly have his career ruined seems a bit disproportionate. I feel he has paid his dues and should be allowed to continue his football career.

Since when did all of you Powers That Be decide that Michael Vick's return to the NFL -- where as a proven premiere performer he surely belongs -- is out of the question? Your question about whether or not Vick is a good "match" for the UFL not only begs the real question at hand (that is will Vick be allowed to play in the NFL again), but it exposes a profound arrogance and dismissiveness, disrespect, disregard, and malevolence which reeks of racism.
You folks hate it that Blacks dominate professional sports in the first place. Should your opinions matter at all? (Now there's a whale of an example of begging the question to match this article's title!)
Nobody gave a damn about PETA before it became at once so easy and convenient to shed a tear over exploited animals. Shall we assume, then, that you will call upon not just the NFL, but all sports to cease the use of "animal by-products" in sports equipment? Or will you just insist that the ol' pigskin be referred to by its proper name, the ol' cowskin?
Oh, and since the average NFL fan is so warm and fuzzy, why don't you take the initiative to demonstrate this "fact" by setting up cameras to record how many fans booing the sight of Vick on-field are doing so while picking tailgate hamburger and hotdog meat, and any number of other now-available "gourmet non-vegetarian fare" from their hypocritical teeth. Teeth, which when their team's defense is on the field, will be snarling for some quarterback's [Vick's?] blood...literally!

Lenient treatment for professional athletes? Michael Vick has probably paid much, much more dearly for his offense because he is black and a big time professional athlete. He engaged in dogfighting - do you want to execute him, lock him up forever? Yes, he abused animals, in a "sport" that has quite a long, if now deservedly discredited history. He didn't assault anyone, he didn't molest anyone, he didn't steal the public's money, he didn't start a war under false pretenses. He paid the price for his actions - let them man get up and start his life over, stop kicking him while he is down.

Prosecuting Vick did not mean that dog lives are more important than people's lives. More to the point, going easy on animal cruely actuall increases, not decreases, danger to people. It is long proven taht those who have abused animals often move on to abusing people, especially women and children (mainly sick men looking for power over the "weak"). To welcome Vick back because he is a sports celebrity would send a horrible message. He made his choices as an adult. If he had been a child abuser or molester, he'd have to register to life and would be stigmatized for life-- no chance of a comeback. And we certanly wouldn't let off a child molester because the person is a celebrity, right?

Why should he be allowed to return to a job that will pay him many times more than my salary? If I was convicted of a crime much less severe than his there would be no way I would be allowed to return. Am I jealous, probably. But then again he had more money than god and could afford to do basically anything legal he wanted to for fun, but he CHOSE to break the law. Instead of being as cruel as he was he could have gone and bought 10 Bentley's and crashed em just for the hell of it.
I hope he was someone's "special" friend in prison and forced to bend over 24/7.

I don't care much about Vick, if he can help a new minor real-football league like the UFL replace the AFL Awful Football League, I will tune in on VS's to see it. If this is the hoop he has to jump through to get back in the NFL, do it. Ricky Williams had to go to the CFL for a little pot, so they better make Vick go sit out a year.

Goodell seems to be under the mistaken impression that he's Kenesaw Mountain Landis, an arbitrary ruler of the sport. Vick served his time, he's as free, notwithstanding post release obligations, as the next guy. He should apply for reinstatement quickly, and sign with a CFL team so he's in shape and playing, with an "out" clause if he's signed by the NFL. If Goodell doesn't act on the request quickly, or turns it down, Vick should sue.

Bringing up the UFL pretty much answers the whiners about poor Mikey's ability to make a living. Forget the dang dogs: he ran a gambling enterprise, which should disqualify him from the NFL for life; but if he can find work elsewhere where they don't have those rules, more power to him. This suggests that he can, so what's the beef? You want to watch him, go to a UFL game.
