THE QUESTION

Should St. Louis Pass on Rush?

Would having a political pundit, like Limbaugh, in the owners box hurt the Rams?

It really won't make a bit of difference-the Rams are this year's version of the Lions. In a league that won't allow end zone dancing I doubt the NFL will allow their squeaky clean zero-tolerance image to be sullied by a perscription drug abuser. Roger Goodell is not the leader of a democracy.

LouisianaVirginian Author Profile Page :

Why shouldn't the NFL permit Rush Limbaugh to purchase a part of the St. Louis Rams? He would fit right in with all the other silly clowns and drugged thugs already in the NFL. For sure, Mr. Limbaugh banks a tidy sum per year, but this is more about "Hey, look at me!" than about making an investment in a sports franchise. Or maybe Mr. Limbaugh is growing weary of the life behind the microphone yelling invectives at all who disagree with his vision and version of the nation...perhaps he just wants to play to a different audience.

Two things are certain: (1) the Rams will stink either ways, and (2) if the Rams don't let Rush buy in, Obama and the Democrats will be blamed.

Will a team composed of 40 angry white guys do anything but challenge the Detroit Lions for futility? Does Rush really want a football team or is he just trying to sublimate his loss of access to children since they caught him at the airport flying to Dominican Republic and took away his Viagra ( you didn't think he went there for the fishing, did you?).
With Limbaugh's drug history, do you think he would try to access the team doctor for his Oxycontin like he used his maid for his drug buys?

Sutter Author Profile Page :

What difference does it make if Limbaugh buys into the team? Money is money. Who could keep him out? Maybe it'll give him an outlet for his hostility, and he could go into the locker room filled with rather large African-American players and explain what he meant when he said that in Obama's America black students could freely attack white students on school busses while chanting "Right on!"

Rush is probably one of the more publicly despicable human beings around these days. That being said, what does this have to do with him buying in on the scrams?

Uh, and I pretty much stopped watching Football some 15 years ago. One of the reasons was all the juvenile high school punks dancing in the end zone.

What's his name, Tom Landry - he told his players not to dance in the end zone, "act like you've been there before."

It really doesn't matter IF the team passes on him or NOT.
And what the NFL Players union thinks don't really matter either.
The NFL Commissioner and a 3/4 (75%) majority vote of NFL owners will VOTE him down.

Rush may have the right to buy an interest in the team. The current owners would have to decide if they want to sell to him.

The unequal treatment of the black athletes by the commissioner is nothing more then a precursor to the coming out of team owners. Limbaugh is a racist who made an incredible fortune trashing and stepping on the helpless people in our society.

Limbaughs attempt to purchase a national football team will be no different than Michael Corleones wish for his to legitimize the Corleone family by becoming a senator. This trash talking racist hypocrite will be in charge of 30-40 African Americans. Talk about a return to the plantation. The NFL is already a right-wing, hyper-patriotic, anti-labor sort of entity, so Rush will fit right in. The NFL as a whole might not be as bad as, say, the New York Yankees as far as over-the-top enforced patriotism, but it's pretty close.

This will just make the league's politics more apparent.

It's more than a little ironic that Rush Limbaugh wants to join the most socialistic sports league out there. This is the league that shares all of its TV revenue. I would love to see this happen, if for no other reason than just to see what the responses would be if--heavens to Mergatroid!--Rush and Co. (assuming he has partners, hires coaches, etc.) buy the team and turn it within 1-2 years into a Super Bowl contender or winner. People always rush (pardon the pun) to rally around and claim "ownership" of "My/Our Redskins/Orioles/etc." when said team is victorious, but hasten even faster to heap scorn upon the real owners (Angelos, Snyder, etc.) during losing seasons.

kguy1 Author Profile Page :

What the NFL does not need is another high profile loudmouth egomaniac owner. Think of the most successful teams of the last decade- Pats, Steelers, Giants, Colts, etc. Could you pick their owners out of a lineup? Now think of the team owners that you would recognize on the street- Dan Snyder, Jerry Jones, Al Davis. How are those three teams doing? Playoffs? Trophy time? Not so much. Successful owners fade into the background, let coaches coach and players play and only show up at draft and free agent signings and trophy time. Limbaugh is always in the spotlight, it's part of his gig. He'd be bad for the league and bad for the game.

I'm not saying political influence should be a factor in purchasing a team. There are conservative and libral owners in the league. I think what should be the factor (JUST LIKE THEY DO WITH THE PLAYERS) is to decide would that person be a "distraction" or a "cancer" to the team. Limbaugh would be worse than that.
