Fantasy Check

No Value in Leftwich

More fantasy news on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers front. According to St. Petersburg Times beat reporter Rick Stroud, Byron Leftwich is going to be the starting quarterback, unless he flops completely in Thursday's preseason game.

Bucs quarterbacks haven't exactly been fantasy studs. From Trent Dilfer to Brad Johnson to Shaun King to Chris Simms and Jeff Garcia, it's been mostly slim pickings. Even when Brian Griese threw 20 touchdowns in 2004, he was at best a bye-week or injury replacement.

The tradition continues with Leftwich, who most experts have ranked in the bottom two fantasy quarterbacks.

KFFL.com, for instance, ranks Leftwich 31st, behind JaMarcus Russell and ahead of Kerry Collins. CBSSports.com has him 32nd, as does Fantasy Football Toolbox and Fantasy Football Today.

The conclusion here is simple: Leftwich has no fantasy value, except as a No. 3 quarterback in league's that start two. Even then you're better off waiting for an injury to another starter, then adding that backup to your roster as opposed to drafting Leftwich.
