Tomlinson States His Case

LaDainian Tomlinson said he's still the best running back in football, according to a story in Wednesday's Los Angeles Times.

"That's what I pride myself on is not having any weaknesses," he told Times reporter Sam Farmer. "And that's what makes me the best back."

The fantasy world isn't buying it after he burned so many owners -- this one included -- last season.

Last year at this time, nine out of 10 fantasy players picking first overall didn't think twice before selecting Tomlinson. Adrian Peterson was certainly a rising star, but Tomlinson was just one season removed from 1,815 yards rushing and an NFL-record 32 total touchdowns, including one passing.

This season, Peterson is the consensus No. 1 pick, and Tomlinson generally is ranked in slots 5 through 10. SportsOverdose.com lists Tomlinson at No. 7, based on the average ranking of ESPN, Yahoo, NFL.com, Fox and FFToolbox. FantasyFootballNerd, which culls rankings from those sites and many others, lists him eighth.

I'd still have a hard time taking Steve Slaton, Chris Johnson or even Matt Forte -- guys with much shorter track records -- over a healthy Tomlinson.

Reemember a couple years ago when all the hype was to draft Joseph Addai and Laurence Maroney that high?

I think I'd rather just draft at the end of the first round and not have to deal with that quandary.

Tomlinson is a dumbass... remember when he and Peterson went head to head. I remember that game well! 2 great rush defenses and Tomlinson got owned by Peterson putting up 296

Dennis - I'm curious to know how Tomlinson got owned by Peterson? Chargers D got owned by Peterson. Where does L.T. fit into this?

Adrian Peterson is an unbelievable runner, but he still to improve in certain areas to be considered as good a running back as LT. On top of his rushing yards and touchdowns, LT has caught an incredible amount of passes and racked up tons of receiving yardage. He also is a good blocker. Until Peterson's coaches have the faith to keep him in on passing downs, he will rank below LT in my opinion. AP has been working on his pass catching and blocking and he certainly has the talent to be an every down back. He definitely has the double-stiff arm down pat.
