Fantasy Check

Waiver Wire Wednesday

If you're looking to get an early jump on the waiver wire, you've come to the right place. Fantasy Check has scoured some of the most reliable sites to find which players are the most valued, and wide receivers are at the top of list.

In the Bruno Boys' Week 3 Pick Them Up column, there were more wideouts than any other position.

No surprise the Giants' Mario Manningham and Steve Smith were on the list, along with Percy Harvin and Mike Sims-Walker. All had big games on Sunday and have nice upsides on many levels, but as FFToolbox noted on its Week 3 Player Upgrades, "Let's face it, if you aren't first on your league's wavier wire, then you have virtually no chance of actually acquiring Manningham or his teammate Steve Smith this week."

That's why perhaps the most intruiging waiver wire wide receiver is Chicago's Johnny Knox, who has 150 receiving yards in two games. Knox has 13 targets, which is high for a rookie, and he'll be available to most owners, even if you're not at the head of your waiver wire list.

Fantasy Guru had this to say about Knox: "You have to consider his emergence for real, and like Eddie Royal before him, Knox could come out of nowhere as a rookie and put up surprising numbers with [Jay] Cutler throwing him the ball."

Make sense if you consider Royal's numbers this season without Cutler. He has 38 yards and no touchdowns on five catches.

Guru also mentions a plethora of other wide receivers, including Julian Edelman, Pierre Garcon and Chaz Schilens, whom Raiders Coach Tom Cable said would move into the starting lineup when he comes back from a broken left foot.

Edelman had 16 targets against the Jets, and he's a virtualy carbon copy of Wes Welker. Edelman fit into the offense without a hitch, and Tom Brady already seems to have developed confidence in him. In PPR leagues, Edelman could be the most valuable pickup.

In KFFL's Week 3 wide receiver rankings, Smith is No. 2, one spot ahead of the other Steve Smith from Carolina, and Manningham is 15th. Harvin is 24th, Knox 46th, Garcon 55th and Edelman 61st.

I watched the Colts game on MNF and only saw Garcon 3 targets. He's explosive, no doubt about it. Think Peyton will trust him enough to increase his looks?
