Fantasy Check

Week 1 Quarterback Projections

You probably expect most fantasy experts to rate Drew Brees as the top starting quarterback in Week 1. The Saints play the Lions, who were 0-16 last season, and Fantasy Guru forecasts 300 passing yards and three tochdowns for Brees.

You may be a bit surprised to learn the same site ranks Aaron Rodgers as the No. 2 fantasy quarterback despite Green Bay opening the season against division rival Chicago, which traditionally has featured one of the best defenses in the league.

Guru projects 285 passing yards and 2.5 touchdowns for Rodgers based on his "incredible preseason" and the Bears' weakness in stopping the pass.

You're never going to bench Brees, Rodgers, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning or Philip Rivers unless they are injured, so you really don't need an expert to tell you to start those players.

The tough choices at quarterback come at the next tier, with players such as Carson Palmer, Jay Cutler and Donovan McNabb. Fantasy Football Sharks recommends sitting Palmer and Cutler and starting McNabb.

As for sleepers, KFFL and FFToolbox both target the 49ers' Shaun Hill based on his matchup against Arizona, which last season gave up the most passing touchdowns per game and 235 passing yards per game.

Toolbox also suggests starting Kyle Orton as a sleeper based on the Broncos playing Cincinnati, which has a weak secondary, and the fact that wide receiver will be on the field and apparently less disgruntled as he and Denver enter talks for a new contract.
