PvP: Week 4 Quarterbacks

A quarter through the regular season, Peyton Manning is my front-runner for most valuable player. He has 1,336 yards and nine touchdowns through four games, and the Colts are 4-0.

No surprise Manning also exceeded his projections this week. As usual, Fantasy Football Nerd provided projections based on data from the best sites on the Web.

Here's the top 10:

Manning: 22.4 projected points/26 actual points
Jay Cutler: 19.4/23
Matt Schaub: 18/14
Drew Brees: 17.8/7
Jason Campbell: 16.9/20
Joe Flacco: 16.9/22
Philip Rivers: 16.4/28
Aaron Rodgers: 16.1/TBD
Tom Brady: 15.9/23
Shaun Hill: 15.8/18

The most overperforming quarterback in Week 4 was David Garrard, who was projected for 14.2 points and was the 16th best option at the position, according to the Nerd's list. His actual production was 33 points courtesy of 323 passing yards and three touchdowns. He also had 38 rushing yards.

The biggest bust for the second week in a row was Brees, who has not thrown a touchdown in the past two games. He also was held to fewer than 200 yards for the second straight week.

Which leads me to say I was completely off-base with a blog post last week telling Brees owners he would be fine against the Jets. That theory was based on Brees's performance against top 10 defenses last season, when he averaged 290 yards and 2.3 touchdowns in those matchups.

Just wanted to be transparent myself, since this blog often checks others. What's good for the goose, right?

Gene, I think you are completely off-base on your post about T.O. having a breakout week (What To Expect From T.O.) as well. He had no such outing. I think T.O. should start riding the bench.

Yup, I addressed that in my PvP wide receivers post. Completely whiffed on that one.
