Fantasy Check

PvP: week 6 quarterbacks

What a productive weekend it was for the top projected quarterbacks. From Tom Brady to Matt Schaub to Ben Roethlisberger to Drew Brees, fantasy owners overall probably got more out of quarterbacks than in any other week this season.

Here's the top 10 projected quarterbacks as compiled by Fantasy Football Nerd, along with their actual fantasy points.

1. Aaron Rodgers: 24.2 projected fantasy points/26 actual points
2. Brady: 21.7/51
3. Matt Hasselbeck: 19.7/4
4. Donovan McNabb: 19.7/10
5. Schaub: 18.1/39
6. Roethlisberger: 18.1/29
7. Kurt Warner: 18/23
8. David Garrard: 17.2/16
9. Carson Palmer: 17/16
10. Brees: 16.9/38

The top overachievers were Brady, Brees, Schaub and Brett Favre (15/29), who is fast climbing the list of reliable fantasy quarterbacks. Joe Flacco also wasn't bad either with a PvP of 15/27.

Speaking of Brady, I want to mention a conversation I had on The Mike Wise Show last week with Melissa Jacobs, author of an informative new blog called The Football Girl, about the quarterback whom no shortage of fantasy players were ready to bench, at least based on chat questions I received.

Before we get to that, I encourage everyone who's interested in fantasy to visit the blog. It's a great resource for new fantasy players as well as the seasoned veteran, and it's filled with plenty of other thoughtful football content too, including an interview with Barry Sanders.

Now back to Brady, who threw six touchdowns and silenced all the doubters who thought perhaps his days were numbered as a fantasy must-start regardless of matchup. Melissa and I were discussing Brady, and she mentioned as a Randy Moss owner -- of which I am one as well -- it was frustrating to watch missed connections between the players this season.

Not to worry was my position, and I compared Brady's situation to that of Peyton Manning last season. Manning was coming off surgery to his left knee in July, and he started with one touchdown pass in each of his first three games.

After a bye in Week 4, Manning settled back into the player fantasy owners have come to admire, throwing 23 touchdowns over the next 12 games. Count on similar statistics the rest of the way from Brady now that he's in top form again.
