Should NY let Plaxico go free?

According to reports, former Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress won't be getting out of any time soon. New York state Department of Correctional Services rejected his request for work release apparently agreeing with prosecutors who had argued that it was too soon. Do you agree with that decision? The people requested anonymity because the charges haven't been announced. The charge carries a possible 15-year prison sentence.
As NFL News Feed is reporting, New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress is scheduled to be in court this morning. Burress faces weapon possession charges and a possible jail sentence of 3-1/2 to 15 years in connection with the November incident in which he shot himself in the leg at a New York nightclub.
Marshawn Lynch Charged on 3 Gun Misdemeanors

From the wires: CULVER CITY, Calif. (AP) -- Buffalo Bills running back Marshawn Lynch was charged with three gun-related misdemeanors Thursday after his arrest last week in Southern California. Lynch was charged in Los Angeles County Superior Court with possessing a concealed, loaded and unregistered firearm, police Detective Ryan Thompson said. Lynch was arrested on Feb. 11 after police smelled marijuana coming from a parked car that Lynch occupied with two other men. Officers searched the vehicle and found a loaded pistol and four marijuana cigarettes. They did not book any of the men for any drug offenses. "We would have preferred no criminal charges. However, given that charges were filed we are pleased that they are misdemeanors as opposed to felonies," said Lynch's attorney, Gerald Schwartzbach. Lynch's arraignment is scheduled for March 3. The arrest was his second brush with the law in less than a year. In June,

49ers Roderick Green Arrested

From the Associated Press San Francisco 49ers linebacker Roderick Green was arrested after he became uncooperative during a traffic stop in his hometown of Brenham. A Washington County sheriff's deputy walked to the passenger side of Green's truck after pulling it over for speeding Feb. 2, said Janie Hart, a sheriff's department patrol clerk. When the deputy instructed the occupants to roll down the slightly open window, the window was rolled up instead, Hart said Thursday. After returning to the patrol car, the deputy approached the driver's side and told Green to get out of the truck. He complied and was arrested. Hart said he was eventually charged with four misdemeanors -- reckless driving, unlawfully carrying a weapon, possession of marijuana and interfering with the duties of a police officer. Green was released on a personal recognizance bond the day after the arrest, Hart said. Green's agent, James Selmer, didn't

Anderson, a fan favorite who created the "Dirty Bird" touchdown celebration dance, played eight seasons for the Falcons before leaving the team with a knee injury in 2001. Atlanta police spokesman Officer Otis Redmond said Anderson, 36, was arrested early Sunday at the Peachtree Tavern in Atlanta's trendy Buckhead district.
Is Michael Vick a Psychopath?

In a fax dated today, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) President Ingrid E. Newkirk asked NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to take a hard look at Michael Vick's mental health before deciding whether to let him return to the NFL. Vick, formerly a star quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, was convicted of dogfighting conspiracy charges in August, 2007, and could be released from federal prison as early as this summer. While acknowledging that Vick "has apologized publicly and to me personally," Newkirk wrote that his behavior "seems to fit the established profile of antisocial personality disorder." Those who suffer from the disorder are referred to as psychopaths "in the common parlance," Newkirk wrote, and their prognosis for recovery is poor. She asked the commissioner to have Vick submit to psychological testing in order to determine his condition before deciding whether to let him back into the league.

Michael Irvin Ok After Gun Incident

In one of the more bizarre car jacking incidents in recent memory, former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin went unharmed when his attacker recognized him and the two began talking football. According to NFL News Feed, the 42-year-old Hall of Famer was "unharmed in an incident Monday night in the Dallas area in which a person in another vehicle pointed a gun at him. According to the Morning News, which cited a police report, the Hall of Fame wide receiver and broadcaster was in a vehicle and was stopped at a red light when the driver of a vehicle next to him rolled down the window. Irvin rolled down his window and saw a passenger in the other vehicle holding a gun, according to the Morning News. But the passenger recognized Irvin and, according to the report, the two talked about the Cowboys before the other vehicle drove off.

Second Witness in Marvin Harrison Shooting

ESPN is reporting the Philadelphia District Attorney Lynn Abraham declined charging Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison despite two witnesses alleging he held a gun during the April 29th shooting outside his North Philadelphia garage. According to the WWLS, Robert Nixon, an alleged victim, gave a previously unreleased statement which corroborates "Dwight Dixon, another shooting victim, and contradict[s] Harrison, who admits that he was in a fistfight with Dixon but insists he was unarmed when gunfire erupted... "Nixon initially told police he knew nothing about what happened, but four days later he signed a statement saying he was positive that he saw Harrison with a gun in his hand at the time of the altercation, according to the source. In the statement, Nixon said he was standing about 50 feet from the car wash during the fight and was not involved." Stay tuned to NFL Crime Watch as the story develops.

Dallas LB Anthony Spencer Busted

From the wires: Dallas Cowboys linebacker Anthony Spencer was arrested over the weekend after a disturbance outside a downtown Indianapolis nightclub, police said. Spencer was arrested on preliminary charges of public intoxication and disorderly conduct about 3 a.m. Sunday outside the Have a Nice Day Cafe, city police Sgt. Matthew Mount said. Spencer, 24, was later released without bond. A court appearance was scheduled for Jan. 15. Police said Spencer and another man were thrown out of the bar when they refused to leave at closing time, then argued with officers and ignored orders to leave. A bouncer at the nightclub told officers that Spencer had offered to pay for it to stay open past the 3 a.m. closing time set by law and after being told no tried to punch the bouncer, a police report said.
Marvin Harrison Not Charged

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison is off the hook for now. The eight-time pro-bowler will not face any weapons charges in connection with the shooting of a 32-year-old man outside Harrison's North Philadelphia car wash last April. The announcement came during a press conference held this morning by Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham. There had been speculation that Harrison could face felony charges after a lengthy investigation into the incident. But according to Abraham there is insufficient evidence to proceed with criminal charges. Philadelphia police detectives had said that bullet casings found across the street from Harrison's car wash came from an armor piercing Belgian-made pistol owned by Harrison and later surrendered to police. Even if Harrison was not accused of being the shooter, Pennsylvania's strict gun laws stipulate that the owner of a gun discharged in the act of a crime can be charged. Harrison, a 36-year-old Philadelphia
