Brady's Season Appears Over
An NFL source said tonight the New England Patriots believe they have lost quarterback Tom Brady for the remainder of the season with a serious knee injury.
The Patriots are resigned to the fact that Brady likely suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and perhaps other damage in his left knee during today's game against the Kansas City Chiefs, said the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss Brady's condition publicly.
Brady exited the game after taking a hit to the knee and was replaced by backup Matt Cassel.
Cassel finished the game, won by the Patriots.
He probably would become the Patriots' starter if Brady indeed is sidelined.
Brady, a three-time Super Bowl winner, is coming off one of the best seasons that a quarterback ever has had. He threw 50 touchdown passes and only eight interceptions during the regular season last year while the Patriots went 16-0. He was named the league's most valuable player but fell short of a fourth career Super Bowl title when the Patriots were upset in the Super Bowl by the New York Giants.
He has been beset by a series of injuries beginning with the AFC title game last season, when he suffered a high ankle sprain on his right leg. He was sidelined for this entire preseason because of a sore right foot, and now comes this injury.
Brady was hurt when he was hit by Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard after delivering a throw.
Free agent quarterback Chris Simms, released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their final round of roster cuts, is scheduled to work out for the Patriots on Monday and could be signed by day's end. The Patriots also could consider free agent Tim Rattay, a source said.

Don't everyone get your panties in a bunch over this just yet, I am not sure I believe a word of it. When was the last time so much medical info about the Patriots so quickly available? I smell a Bellagate rat.

Listen, I remember quite clearly the night when LT broke Joe Theismann's leg.
Now, yes, I hated Joe Theismann (I'm a NY'er who grew up in DC), but I hardly celebrated the fact the man had a career ending injury. (And if you remember correctly, neither did LT, who was beside himself.) It's not like I had a personal hatred of the man (though he actually did live not too far from my home and I went to school with his kids).
Do I like Brady? I'm lukewarm. He's good, I feel like he's too young to have already been wrapped up with the likes of Joe Montana or Dan Marino, who were great because of their extended and consistent greatness. Because a lot of those receptions last year I feel can be attributed to the undoubted skills of Randy Moss as a receiver (despite the ick of a human he can be), not so much the brilliance of Tom Brady, you know?
Watching him preen around last year - especially after years of the Pats talking about how they won by team effort and no one was a standout - was annoying, and I felt like karma was catching up with him for the Super Bowl loss.
But for God's sake - these guys have limited shelf lives and take a lot of physical abuse. I can't wish pain and career-ending (or career-limiting) injury on any of them. This was injury on top of insult, really, and as much as I enjoy watching football, I can't take it so much to heart to enjoy someone else's physical pain.

I believe the arrogance of Brady and the PATs in general is coming back to haunt them. They've enjoyed some amazing success over the past few years, but their attitude sucks. What was the deal with skipping the pro bowl last year, because you lost the Super Bowl. What a loser move. And the cheating . . . unacceptable. I think they are just paying the price for not being more classy when they were champions.
With that said I don't wish injuries on any player and hope the guys gets well soon.

He's still fabulously wealthy and has a hot model girlfriend. Poor guy. I guess he's not hurting from the slumping economy.

To Take That: If cheaters never win, why do they bother to cheat. Statistically, it makes no sense to try something that has a zero chance of succeeding.

I have 5 dollars that says Daunte Culpepper is in a Pats Uniform by the end of the week.

Kharma, Man ... It's payback for last season's mean-spirited steamrolling of teams, SpyGate, etc.

Isn't it peculiar how the mantra changed from 'they cheated their way to 3 Super Bowls' to 'cheaters never win'?
You crazy kooks. Every team gets their day in the sun, but some teams get 7+ years.

I'm sorry you're a fan of a team that doesn't compete at a high level. I can say I certainly know how it feels. Not so much the 'wishing harm on others' thing though.
Now take your ball and go home.

Having lived in new england for a long time, and not as a patriots fan, my thoughts and prayers go out to any other players who can injur the rest of that evil, conceited, cheatin *** team!

To Take That: You are a fool and a jerk. As a lifelong Patriots fan, I have never celebrated another player's injury. You have no class...

cheaters never win.
weak-sauce.

I'm no Brady fan (I cackled with glee when they lost the Superbowl), but ouuuuuuuuuuuch. Hope he gets better soon and that the injury isn't as severe as they are thinking. That's a horrible injury, and this is just a game ...

It's sad not only for New England but for the NFL and all fans to lose the player SI recently ranked as the best in the league, coming off one of the great seasons of all time.
Football's dilemma is that its all out, often violent, action makes it riveting to watch, but it is also the source of many injuries.

You're a fool Jen. No matter how much you hate Brady and the Pats you shouldn't celebrate an injury. Especially if you're a deadskins fan. The funny thing is even if the Pats do lose Brady for the season - they'll still finish with a better record then the skins...
I didn't laugh when Theisman pretended he was Elastic Man...

Chris Simms? Tim Rattay? Working out for the Patriots? Wow, I'm not a Jets fan, but if I were, I'd be reveling in the fortune that fate has bestowed me.
But I'm a Skins fan. I usually wonder what sin I've committed that brought me DanVin.
You're one in a million, Tom. Hope your recovery is swift.

That "bitch" could probably bang your mother, sister and girlfriend at the same time, all while smacking you up-side that empty cavity you call a head.
