Giants' Smith Robbed Last Week
New York Giants wide receiver Steve Smith was robbed at gunpoint at his home in New Jersey last week, according to reports.
Smith had money, jewelry and a cell phone taken, according to police.
The second-year pro reportedly had returned to his townhouse in a chauffeur-driven car early last Tuesday when he was approached by a man who held a gun to the player's head.
The man has not been caught by police, according to reports.
The NFL has been informed of the incident, which was first reported Sunday on NBC by former Giants running back Tiki Barber, now a broadcaster with the network.
Barber said the incident might have partially explained Plaxico Burress's thinking in reportedly taking a gun to a New York nightclub later last week. The Giants wide receiver suffered a thigh wound when, according to reports, he mishandled the gun and accidentally shot himself in the leg. Burress reportedly told the nightclub's management that he needed the gun for protection.
Burress was charged Monday with criminal possession of a weapon.
