No Franchise Tag For Haynesworth
Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth's selection to the Pro Bowl on Tuesday means that he will be eligible for unrestricted free agency next spring.
According to the Tennessean, the Pro Bowl selection triggers a clause in Haynesworth's contract that the Titans cannot use their franchise player tag on him for a second straight offseason to keep him off the free agent market.
Haynesworth is regarded as a top candidate for NFL defensive player of the year honors.
He is to miss the Titans' final two regular season games after suffering a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee during last Sunday's loss to the Houston Texans. Coach Jeff Fisher said Monday he expects Haynesworth to be back in the Titans' lineup for their opening playoff game.
