Week 17 Rankings

You might remember back to the early weeks of the season when we asked during one of our panel discussions here on The League if the Colts' run as a top team was over. At the time, it certainly looked like it. But here they are, back atop our rankings as the regular season winds down. They won't be a top seed in the playoffs. In fact, they'll be a wild-card team. But they're simply playing better than any other club at the moment. It's all about current level of play (and that means more than just last Sunday's results). That's why the going-home-for-the-playoffs 49ers are ranked ahead of several stumbling postseason contenders like the Buccaneers, Jets and Broncos as well as the Cardinals, who have won the NFC West but gave yet another embarrassing performance against a legitimate opponent last weekend.

I'm no prognosticator, so take it with a grain of salt when I proclaim that the Colts haven't a chance in hell of winning a Super Bowl this year.

Nor do the Falcons, the Ravens, the Dolphins, the Bears, or the Patriots.
