Weis Not Returning to NFL

So much for my weekend musings that maybe New England Patriots Coach Bill Belichick could reassemble his staff from the franchise's Super Bowl-winning glory days by rehiring Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel in the offseason.

Notre Dame has announced today that it is retaining Weis as its head coach.

Weis probably wouldn't have been a coveted head coaching candidate elsewhere if he'd been dismissed by the school, but he likely would have been in demand around the NFL as an offensive coordinator candidate.

Could Crennel actually save his job as the Cleveland Browns' head coach as well? He's down to his third starting quarterback of the season, with Ken Dorsey taking over for the injured Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn. It doesn't look particularly promising for Crennel in Cleveland, but Browns owner Randy Lerner has said he will wait until after the season to decide whether to retain Crennel and General Manager Phil Savage.

Crennel is done and he doesn't deserve getting a job again in the NFL as any coaching position. That team is a complete disaster and his inept play calling is on full display.
