Cards Sell Out NFC Championship
The Arizona Cardinals announced that they sold out next Sunday's NFC title game against the Philadelphia Eagles six minutes after putting tickets on sale today.
Tickets were made available to Arizona residents only, the Cardinals announced.
"Yesterday's win against Carolina has led to unprecedented levels of excitement and enthusiasm," Ron Minegar, the Cardinals' executive vice president and chief operating officer, said in a written statement released by the team. "Certainly that was evidenced in today's ticket activity."
According to the Cardinals, tickets were put on sale soon after the Eagles' triumph this afternoon over the New York Giants made Arizona the host of the game.
"Ticket demand was high even before the Eagles-Giants game started," Minegar said in a written statement. "Once that outcome was decided and it was certain that we were hosting the NFC championship game, the demand grew to enormous proportions."
According to the Cardinals, the team has added seats to the stadium and will have a capacity of more than 70,000 for the game by using a configuration similar to what was used for last season's Super Bowl at the University of Phoenix Stadium.
The Cardinals needed two one-day extensions of the normal three-day deadline to sell out their first-round playoff game at home against the Atlanta Falcons to avoid a local television blackout, but had no such ticket-selling difficulties this week.
