Harrison Named Defensive Player of Year
Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison was named the NFL's defensive player of the year today by the Associated Press.
Harrison was the leader of the league's top-ranked defense with 16 sacks and seven forced fumbles.
He becomes the fifth Steelers defender to win the award following Joe Greene, Mel Blount, Jack Lambert and Rod Woodson.
He received 22 votes in balloting of media members, nine more than Dallas Cowboys linebacker and NFL sack leader DeMarcus Ware.
Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed finished third with eight votes. Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth received five votes and Steelers safety Troy Polamalu got two.
