Evidence Against Vincent?
According to a report by Sports Illustrated, late NFL Players Association chief Gene Upshaw had evidence supporting allegations that Troy Vincent improperly disclosed confidential information about agents to a business partner.
Upshaw gathered e-mails supporting the allegations and had planned to confront Vincent with the evidence, according to the report.
Vincent, a former president of the Players Association and later a union executive, is one of three finalists to succeed Upshaw, who died last August.
The union has announced that it will investigate the allegations against Vincent.
Players are to elect a permanent replacement for Upshaw next month. The other finalists are fellow former player Trace Armstrong and D.C. attorney DeMaurice Smith.
People close to the search say it's also possible that the candidacy of attorney David Cornwell could be revived when the players gather in mid-March in Hawaii for the union's annual meetings. Any candidate nominated by at least three player representatives can be considered, according to union rules.
