Jets Said to be Interested in Cutler

DANA POINT, Calif.--The New York Jets reportedly are interested in trading for quarterback Jay Cutler if the Denver Broncos opt to deal him.

The New York Daily News reported that Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum has contacted the Broncos to inform them that the Jets are prepared to make an offer for Cutler if the Broncos decide to part with him.

The Broncos want to see if their relationship with Cutler can be repaired before making a decision about a potential trade, according to the report.

The Jets, after Brett Favre's retirement, have quarterbacks Kellen Clemens, Brett Ratliff and Erik Ainge on their roster. Club officials said just after Favre's retirement announcement that they were comfortable with the quarterbacks they have on their roster. But many people around the league expect the team to add a quarterback at some point this offseason.

Cutler expressed his displeasure after the Broncos considered recent trade offers for him. Those proposed three-team deals would have gotten former New England Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel for the Broncos, and Cassel no longer is available after being traded to the Kansas City Chiefs instead.

A conference call and a meeting between Cutler and Broncos officials failed to ease tensions. Cutler asked to be traded.

His agent, Bus Cook, told the NFL's website that Broncos owner Pat Bowlen had told Cutler after former coach Mike Shanahan was fired that the team's offensive staff would be kept intact. Instead, Bowlen hired Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to replace Shanahan. Bowlen told the NFL's website that he didn't recall having any such conversation with Cutler.

I don't understand the fuss about Jay Cutler. When I look at him I see the second coming of Jeff George - mad skills and an inability to work with others for very long. Total underachiever and a proven non-winner, both college and pro.
