Rams Cut Holt
The St. Louis Rams have released wide receiver Torry Holt, the 11th-leading receiver in NFL history.
The move had been expected for some time and comes on the heels of the Rams releasing left tackle Orlando Pace. The two moves together cleared about $14 million in salary cap space for the team.
"The Rams will forever be grateful for the way Torry Holt represented the Rams on the field and in the community," owner Chip Rosenbloom said in a written statement released by the club. "He is an All-Pro in every sense of the word. Over the past 10 seasons Torry has proven himself to be one of the finest wide receivers in league history.
"This is a difficult decision because Torry has meant so much to the organization. In my mind and for all Rams fans, Torry will always be a Ram and we wish him and his family nothing but the best as they move forward."
The Rams selected Holt with the sixth overall choice in the 1999 NFL draft and he played 10 seasons for the team.
He was selected to seven Pro Bowls. Holt ranks 11th in league history with his 869 catches and 14th with his 12,660 receiving yards.
"Torry Holt has had an outstanding career here in St. Louis," Rams General Manager Billy Devaney said in a written statement released by the team. "We thank Torry for the many things he has done for the Rams organization on and off the field."
The release of Holt saved the Rams about $8 million in salary cap space after cutting Pace had cleared approximately $6 million in salary cap room.
