Jets in Thick of Cutler Race
Several people around the league say they regard the New York Jets as the front-runner to land Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler in a trade.
Those people say the Jets are intent upon completing the deal to land Cutler in the aftermath of Brett Favre's retirement, which left the team without a proven quarterback. The Jets also have a new stadium being built, in tandem with the New York Giants, and perhaps are highly motivated to land a standout quarterback to excite fans and sponsors.
The Jets' potential problem is that the Broncos apparently would prefer to trade Cutler out of the AFC.
In addition, the Jets don't have a proven quarterback to send to Denver as part of a trade package. However, that does not appear to be a priority for the Broncos, who seem willing to settle for a package of draft picks instead.
