Ravens Announce Beck Signing

The Baltimore Ravens have announced the previously reported signing of quarterback John Beck, who'd been released by the Miami Dolphins, to a one-year contract.

"John is a player we evaluated thoroughly in preparing for the 2007 draft," General Manager Ozzie Newsome said in a written statement released by the Ravens. "He was a very productive college player, but what also impressed our scouts was how competitive he is. We like to bring in good athletes who love to compete and he fits that."

The move reunites Beck with Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, who was the head coach of the Dolphins when that team drafted Beck in the second round two years ago.

Beck reportedly is to vie with Troy Smith for the backup job in Baltimore behind Joe Flacco.

Hopefully it will be a better situation for Beck, the poor guy had no chance in Miami so a couple seasons as a backup could do him some good. Perhaps the Ravens will end up sending Troy to the Browns like he wanted back on draft day.
