Roy Williams Agrees to Bengals' Deal
Free agent safety Roy Williams has agreed to a contract with the Cincinnati Bengals, according to the team's website.
Agent Jordan Woy told the Bengals' website that it's a short-term deal with incentives but did not provide specifics.
"There were a couple of teams offering considerable more money, but Roy liked the fit in Cincinnati," Woy said, according to the club's website. "It's a good fit for both sides really. Roy obviously has a great relationship with [Bengals defensive coordinator] Mike Zimmer and he's excelled in that defense and the Bengals are happy to get a guy like that for their defense."
Williams, a five-time Pro Bowl selection, had been released by the Dallas Cowboys.
"He understands the situation," Zimmer, formerly the Cowboys' defensive coordinator, said, according to the Bengals' website. "I told him I don't want him if he's not the guy I know that works and studies. I always felt like could have been even better than what he was just because of the fact he had a lot outside things pulling at him. I think now he's focused on football, so well see."
