Merriman Arrested
UPDATED (8:47 p.m.)...
San Diego Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman was arrested early Sunday after an alleged domestic incident.
According to reports by several San Diego media outlets, Merriman was taken into custody by sheriff's deputies after authorities received a call around 3:45 a.m.
Merriman is accused of choking model and MTV reality show hostess Tila (Tequila) Nguyen and physically restraining her from leaving his home, according to the reports. The San Diego Union-Tribune described Nguyen as Merriman's girlfriend.
She signed a citizen's arrest complaint at the scene charging Merriman with battery and false imprisonment, and was taken to a hospital, according to the reports.
Merriman, formerly of the University of Maryland, was released from custody shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday, the Union-Tribune reported.
A spokesman for the sheriff's department told the Union-Tribune that Nguyen did not appear to deputies to be seriously hurt. The two had been at a nightclub earlier in the night and Nguyen, the spokesman told the newspaper, was intoxicated when deputies arrived at the house. It was not clear if Merriman had been drinking, according to the Union-Tribune.
The district attorney's office is to decide after an investigation whether any formal charges will be filed, according to the newspaper.
There reportedly were other people at the house when the incident occurred but they haven't been identified publicly.
"It's disappointing to hear about the issue involving Shawne Merriman," Chargers General Manager A.J. Smith said in a written statement released by the team. "We'll continue to monitor the situation and let the legal process run its course."

Report the entire story, she was drunk and he was trying to stop her from driving. He will come out of this as doing the right thing yet CNN and wapo will never retract the original negative story.
