Chiefs trade DT to Panthers

The Kansas City Chiefs traded defensive tackle Tank Tyler to the Carolina Panthers for an undisclosed draft choice next year, the Chiefs announced on their Web site.

The draft pick reportedly is a fifth-round selection.

The Panthers have been shorthanded at defensive tackle because of injuries.

Tyler had lost the starting nose tackle job in Kansas City to Ron Edwards. Tyler played only nine defensive snaps in Sunday's victory over the Washington Redskins at FedEx Field, according to the Chiefs' Web site.

The NFL's trading deadline comes Tuesday afternoon.
