Jets' Edwards charged with assault
According to the Associated Press, New York Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards was charged with misdemeanor assault in connection with an incident earlier this month in which he is alleged to have punched a man outside a Cleveland nightclub.
Edwards is accused of punching promoter Edward Givens, a friend of NBA standout LeBron James, on Oct. 5. Edwards was a member of the Cleveland Browns at the time, but was traded to the Jets.
The charged, filed Monday, carries a maximum sentence of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine, according to the AP.
An arraignment hearing is scheduled for Nov. 17 and an attorney for Edwards indicated that he will plead not guilty, the AP reported.
