Jets place Washington on IR list

The New York Jets placed running back Leon Washington on the season-ending injured reserve list, the team announced Monday.

Washington suffered a broken leg during Sunday's triumph over the Oakland Raiders.

He underwent two hours of surgery Sunday night after suffering a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula, according to the Jets.

A rod was placed in Washington's tibia to stabilize the bone, and he is to return to the New York area as soon as Wednesday, according to the Jets.
