Panthers' Smith 'No Longer an Asset'
Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith was unhappy with his lack of production in Sunday's triumph over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Smith had one catch for four yards in the game and, according to the Charlotte Observer, said afterward: "I'm no longer an asset to this team."
Smith has 21 catches for 259 yards and no touchdowns this season, and doesn't have a catch longer than 28 yards. Quarterback Jake Delhomme said the double-teaming attention that Smith receives from opposing defenses has been a major factor.
"Two guys are committed to him every play," Delhomme said, according to the Observer. "We try to take shot shots, but it's difficult."
