Reed expected to play
Pittsburgh Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin indicated he expects kicker Jeff Reed to play this weekend, according to the Associated Press.
The Steelers face the unbeaten Minnesota Vikings on Sunday at Heinz Field.
According to the AP, Tomlin said Tuesday that the Steelers and the NFL are investigating an incident last Sunday involving Reed.
Reed reportedly will contest the citations he received for the incident involving police outside a bar.
"We're contesting it," Reed's agent, Don Henderson, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "It involved somebody else on the team. [Reed] got out to try to help and basically got attacked by the police. He was with his parents. He got out and tried to help and evidently they didn't want to hear that.... It was somebody else trying to do something and Jeff ended up getting slammed in the middle."
According to the Post-Gazette, officers were taking information from Steelers tight end Matt Spaeth to give him a citation after spotting Spaeth urinating outside a vehicle around 9 p.m. Sunday, hours after the Steelers had beaten the Cleveland Browns at Heinz Field.
Reed got out of the passenger side of the vehicle and, according to a police affidavit, refused to get back inside, putting up his fists and getting into a "fighter's stance," the Post-Gazette reported. Reed continued to resist as officers forced him to the ground and struggled to get Reed's hands into cuffs, according to the Post-Gazette.
Reed was issued a citation for simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness, the Post-Gazette reported. He was released at the scene into the custody of his father, who was the driver of the vehicle, and is to receive a summons by mail to appear in court, according to the newspaper.
