Report: 'Minimal' or no action against Cable

Any possible disciplinary action taken by the NFL against Oakland Raiders Coach Tom Cable would be "minimal at best," the league-owned NFL Network reported.

The district attorney for Napa County, Calif., announced Thursday that charges would not be filed against Cable for a training camp incident in which Cable was accused of injuring one of the team's assistant coaches, Randy Hanson, in a physical confrontation.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a satellite radio interview after the district attorney's decision was announced that the league would continue its evaluation about whether to discipline Cable under its personal conduct policy.

The personal conduct policy empowers Goodell to discipline a team employee, if he deems it necessary, even in a case in which criminal charges are not filed.

The policy specifically prohibits violent behavior by one team employee toward another, either within or outside of the workplace.

Hanson had alleged in a media interview that Cable had knocked him from a chair into a piece of furniture, resulting in Hanson suffering a broken jaw.

Cable had said publicly that nothing happened.

Gary Lieberstein, the Napa County district attorney, said when making his announcement last week that Cable rushed toward Hanson but was blocked by another assistant coach, and the other assistant coach made contact with Hanson and knocked Hanson from his chair.
