Delhomme has broken finger

Carolina Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme could be sidelined by a broken finger on his throwing hand.

Panthers Coach John Fox announced Monday that Delhomme had suffered the injury Sunday.

Matt Moore could take over as the Panthers' starter at quarterback this week.

Delhomme threw four interceptions in Sunday's loss to the New York Jets, bringing his total for the season to 18. Coach John Fox has been questioned regularly all season about whether he would bench Delhomme.

"If his finger wasn't an issue, I couldn't with a straight face make a change just with him," Fox said Monday, according to the Associated Press. "That was a combined effort by the offensive players, not just one player.... It was poor not just by the quarterback."
